Title: URGENT hosting coppermine
Post by: allvip on March 30, 2014, 12:06:35 pm
I need a good host for coppermine.
I had my gallery on yahoo but they do not allow .htaccess to prevent hotlinking and the memory limit is very small.

Now I have arvixe host from 6 months.
I have 12GB and a few visitors but they say is to much
and they always wanted my gallery to be added to CloudFlare.

I read on a thread that Andre has a big gallery.
What host does he use?

Anyone knows a good host?

I'm a reseller for the host I use... I've never had an issue with then as far as size/traffic... .htaccess is fine and reasonable memory limits (approx 200 MB), 24x7 support (typically < 5 min response), cPanel for management.
The main question is where (country) you want to be hosted.

My best price is for US based hosting in major US data center in shared hosting environment.
100GB storage
1,000 GB traffic monthly
500,000 inodes
(*inode is sum of number of files, directories, mail messages, and symlinks.)

I offer a special price for Coppermine users - listed in my gallery at greggallery.gmcdesign.com (http://greggallery.gmcdesign.com)
$99 for a year including domain registration. ($89 with your own already registered domain name.)

I can quote prices for Hong Kong, Germany, and Bulgaria...
Smaller plans available. Dedicated plans available (US and Hong Kong only)

You can contact me via email (envelope icon under my name on left) with questions.
PayPal and credit cards accepted for payment. (PayPal recommended for non-US payments)

Your offer is very good but I can never host my website with you.
You are part of the coppermine team and if something goes wrong we will argue a lot.
I must not argue with coppermine team.

I have 20GB and my who is online plugin always shows around 80 visitors.I do not think is too much for a shared host.

Statistics from my Cpanel.

Is this too much for a shared host?

The choice is yours of course... Except for purchase/renewal, the support comes direct from them... I just use my reseller discount to reduce the price... You get a support account directly with them to address any issues.

You can also host with them directly: www.icdsoft.com.
It is their 'business plan' at Savvis (MA, USA) data center.
They charge $125/$120 a year (with/without DNS registration)
My regular price is $113/$108.`
My special for CPG users is $99/$89.

Your size and volume should be fine on a good shared host.

Whether you go through me or not, I do recommend ICD Soft... I have hosted websites with them for a decade.  I have seen cheaper, but always with limiting restrictions, or inadequate (in my opinion) support...
(Every shared host has to have some restrictions.. But I have seen some very unreasonable ones...)
They literally accept and start working on any tickets I open in under 2 min... And typically have a response in 5 min... And usually a helpful response... Even for questions outside their area of support.

99 a year is way to good.
Even now I pay 7$ a month for arvixe personal class pro + 2 $ a month for dedicated IP.

With yahoo I was paying 12$ a month.

Did you looked a my links with statistics.

Am I unreasonable or arvixe?

They even disabled a lot of stuff in my acoount that I used to have access to.
They really want to keep me small as possible.
I did not had uplods on my gallery in 6 months-Just 100 or 200 images.
Rest of the images is my old yahoo server files.

If I looked well at the statistisc I use around 350GB traffic a month and 12GB files.
It can not be too much.

I really want your opinion.
Is my host really unreasonable?

From a traffic and size perspective, you are certainly within limits...
I asked my ISP to look at the stats you posted.

They said you have a 'very popular site' but if optimized should run fine.
They do offer a 30 day guarantee (as do I) - to give it a try.

Server load (CPU / MySQL resources) are something every shared host provider watches... I have never even come close to hitting their limits.  Don't know if you can see those stats on your server.
On mine, cPanel has a 'Resources' icon, and within that a 'CPU/MySQL Usage' tab..
The daily CPU time limit is 100 minutes... The daily MySQL time limit is 20 minutes...
Can you view this data for your current host? (I see almost a 60 day view of usage.)
If you fit within these limits, I see no issue with ICD Soft shared hosting...

Above those limits will likely be an issue for many shared hosts - and they would recommend 'managed VPS' or other types of dedicated services... The price takes a significant step at that point... Again I can offer a significant discount - but looking at $200/month at that point... (ICD Soft direct is $299 for month 1; $239 additional months)
That is a huge difference - so hopefully we can make shared hosting work...

As for answers to questions... I have never had a response time issue... Even when they need to check server logs, etc... Still get a quick response letting me know... And still never had anything go past 30 min...
In 10 plus years, one unplanned outage - a major data center network outage in the Savvis facility several years ago... (affected many others besides ICD Soft)  Their support site is hosted elsewhere so even then it was still available to answer.

HTTP CPU Usage Statistics
Cron CPU Usage Statistics
HTTP Memory Usage Statistics
Cron Memory Usage Statistics
HTTP I/O Usage Statistics
SSH Manager
Cron I/O Usage Statistics

All show nothing but I have this snapshot send by email Sent: 2013-09-22:

We have noticed high CPU/Mysql usage on your account as per daily usage stats in 1H.

I do not understand  what is popular about my website:

bandwitch (I know it means visitors) is around 350 a month. Not even close to 1000Gb a months like ICDSoft.

that chart really doesn't show the resource usage.
too bad those reports are all empty - that is the data I wanted to see.
what they seemed to be complaining about was the CPU and MySQL usage.

Not sure what else to suggest except trying it if you want to.

I see daily WinHTTrack,eCatch etc in coppermine statistics. All in the same time.
Is is possible but they load my server?
Title: Re: URGENT hosting coppermine
Post by: gmc on March 31, 2014, 04:19:34 am
They certainly can add to the server load...
WinHTTrack will load every page on your site... Then load all the images/scripts. Used...
The first part will drive CPU, MySQL, and bandwidth... The second primarily bandwidth.

I think is a virus.I never thought I will have to read the I've been hacked thread.

(I am editing the post to add: is NOT a virus - see http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,77372.0.html (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,77372.0.html)

Anyway statistics say 850.000 page visits but that means 28.000 page views per day.Google Adsense shows 2.800 page views per day.
Is proabibly the WinHTTrach,eCatch that does that.

The statistics do not make any sense to me 333Gb traffic but a huge number of visitors and page views.I do not have all that unique visitors.I am more popular then the coppermine forum according to those statistics.

I cannot recommend any host for you, as our galleries differ fundamentally. All my galleries have restricted access for just a couple of family members & friends, which also means I don't need to deal with bots. Even with my ~85.000 pictures I used a free hosting provider a lot of years without any issues. I suggest to give Greg's offer a try.

What specific virus was found/removed? May help others seeing similar issues in future...

If you now have access to CPU and MySQL usage numbers, I would be interested in knowing what the usage is for comparison.
Title: Re: URGENT hosting coppermine
Post by: allvip on March 31, 2014, 11:08:21 pm
Still empty.I contacted my host for that.No answer.

I notice the Account usage option with the current CPU/Memory usage.

If I browse my gallery I often get: can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (11) so my gallery right now is not quite working.
I don't think my current CPU can help you see what the usage is.

website speed test: 94% slower then...

I replaced processes.jpg.Was showing my ip.

I did searched google for that php error. is a little to much for my to understand the tutorials.

I thinks they just ruined my coppermine and their server as well during "server migration" that was actually a sever crash because was down for hours and then my website was looking like 24 hours ago, nothing was working right.

I will have to use my 6 months ago database  >:(
Lucky I am not a popular gallery.I did had 2-4 pictures with amazing views in the last 5 months (5000) but well...download,upload...views 0  >:(

I was referring to the MySQL CPU time... Shared hosting providers typically measure the CPU time used by the site - and separately the CPU time used in MySQL for each user - as that is also a shared resource.

An example from one of my sites attached...

I found a way to see the cpu usage but I do not understand the tutorial

can someone help:

use [user@host ~]$ sar -p for Historical CPU usage but where shoud I type that?
That would require 'shell' access - which I don't expect any shared hosting provider allows for security reasons...
A dedicated server would allow this access.

Further down in the article, the author provides a script that can be invoked via cron to check resource usage and email you if there is an issue... I added to my '15 minute' cron task. Looks like it needs some adjustment for my config, but the output was:

Code: [Select]
grep: /etc/wwwacct.conf: No such file or directory
1 minute load avg: 23
Swap used: 2108 kB
Mem used: 8137468 kB
grep: /proc/net/dev: No such file or directory
grep: /proc/net/dev: No such file or directory
packets received (2 secs): 0
grep: /proc/net/dev: No such file or directory
grep: /proc/net/dev: No such file or directory
packets sent (2 secs): 0
./monitor.pl: line 111: bc: command not found

From looking at the code - the load, swap and mem appear correct... The packet data relies on the 'grep' commands that are failing... I would need to rework a bit...

But to execute - I placed the script in a file named 'monitor.pl' - changed the email address to my email - and invoked it via cron with this command included in my php cron script:
Code: [Select]
system( "cd /home/account/domain/subdomain/directory; ./monitor.pl;" );
(where the cd path is the complete file path to the directory containing the .pl file to be run...)

Should be able to get a view of the stats from your ISP without going through this in my opinion...

invoked it via cron...my php cron script.I do not understood that at all.

I think this script is showing my current cpu.My gallery has 700 page visitis in  the last 2 days because is broken.
My current cpu and mysql time can not compare with march 2014 because is broken and the page views is down to 30%,visitors down to 50%.
Title: Re: Re: URGENT hosting coppermine

HOW?
Guess I should have qualified...  A 'reasonable' ISP should be able to provide such statistics....

Quote
I think this script is showing my current cpu.My gallery has 700 page visitis in  the last 2 days because is broken.

Correct.. It is a current snapshot only... Historical data would depend on the ISP collecting and making available.

Quote

Cron is the ability to schedule tasks to run periodically. Typically cPanel will have a 'Cron' function where you can set times/frequency, and point to a script.  In my case, the script is php - and uses the 'system' call to invoke the perl script from the article you cited.

Closed the account with arvixe and got refunded for the last month (was their ideea not mine) .
I only have access to my domain.
Now I contact yahoo to see if there is any way they allow a hotlinking rule.
After what happend with arvixe I just want a host I KNOW I will have no problems.Yahoo was a reliable server.
They never contact me to say that I am too big,too...and I never contact them because I never had any probems.
I do not care about memory limit anymore.
My gallery is not bigger then when I left yahoo so everything will be fine.
Yahoo is 9 speed rank  on http://fasthosts.net/ (http://fasthosts.net/) . Arvixe is 5 speed rank and is so truth.
To bad I never tested the speed for my website on I was at yahoo.
