Title: Album password protection (for anonymous)
Post by: joombler on March 19, 2013, 09:43:53 pm
Completely lost it here.
I created an album in a category as administrator.
Now I just want to be this album accessible for _everyone_ (guests and anonymous included), they only have to know a password to open that album. So no user login first - just access an album as an unregistered guest - with only access if you know the password.
Can someone tell me how I can do this? This topic comes up frequently but uptill now I didn't read the solution.

Thanks,
Joombler

Thanks, I have seen that one, but I really cannot find out how anonymous can enter with only providing the password ('me only'), as it looks like 'me only' is additional to the user and password I logged in with setting this parameter?

Please read the docs, that's expected behavior and exactly how it is supposed to work. That's also exactly the same what we tell users in the other threads.

If this causes more often confusion, would it be an idea to change the docs in a way that we can pickup this more quickly instead of creating threads in which we are referred to these docs (understanding your user group)?
Just thinking with you,

IMHO the big yellow box stating
Quote
When setting an album password, the permission dropdown field "Album can be viewed by" will be switched automatically to "me only" - this is expected behaviour.
is unambiguously. The actual problem is that most people don't read the docs. How should that message be changed in your opinion?

The issue is that it may work if you are logged in with a user and password, but want that _any_ visitor can have a look at any photo album that has a password protection (to me only) without being logged in with a password. With older versions of Coppermine this worked, only with this version it doesn't.

confused,
Joombler.

It also works with cpg1.5.x. Please post a link to your gallery.

I am somewhat thinking the setting should be logically like this (see attachement).

I won't discuss or explain again how that feature is supposed to work. It's explained in the docs and also in several threads in our board.

As I don't see any album, I assume you haven't enabled the following config option: http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/configuration.htm#admin_picture_thumb_advanced_private_icon_show

The display of the album thumbnail did it, thanks.

Marking thread accordingly. Next time, please to that yourself:
you can tag your answer as "solved" by clicking on the "Topic Solved" button on the bar at the left hand side at the bottom of your thread.
