Title: Backing up my Albums - problem with duplicate file names
Post by: arkamark on July 17, 2012, 08:58:23 pm
Hi,

I am backing up the albums folder ready for an upgrade.
However it seem that on the (Linux) server, capitalisation of letters in filenames treats files as different..
So image.jpg and IMAGE.jpg exist in the same folder.

When I try and backup this folder to my Windows PC, WINSCP stops the download and asks if it should overwrite files as they already exist.
I seem to have quite a few images with the same filename.

Does anyone know of a quick solution to this. So that I can backup the entire contents.. so it matches the databas backup.

Thanks.

In the meantime, I have backed up the folder on the server, so that I san go ahead with the upgrade, but it would be nice to have a local backup on my home machine, with all the images.

Zip the folder on the server.
Of course, as personal experience has demonstrated for me, you will have the same issue if you try to unzip it on a Win machine...

Some hosts provide means of easily zipping backups through control panel options. Otherwise if your package includes zlib you could probably just do it yourself.

Thanks Joe. I'll give that a go.
