Title: To what directory do I install Coppermine?
Post by: SGM on June 25, 2010, 10:39:24 pm
I have tried several ways, none of which proved successful.  The wording says:

Leave empty to install in the root directory of the domain (access example: http://domain/).

Enter only the directory name to install in a directory (for http://domain/name/ enter name only). This directory SHOULD NOT exist, it will be automatically created!

I tried installing to the root directory, got a message that installation failed because there were files already there with the same name.  So I tried installing to a directory and got the message"The installation can not be completed:

- No valid directory name provided.

Click on the browser's Back button to fix reported errors."

The wording on the install page says "his directory SHOULD NOT exist, it will be automatically created!" So I am totally confused.

Have you fully read, understood and applied the methods described in Coppermine Photo Gallery v1.5.6: Documentation and Manual - Installation and Setup (http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/install.htm#how)?

No, I haven't. I was installing on a HostGator website using Fantastico. A form pops up and you fill in the blanks. I assumed it was set up properly to install correctly.  Perhaps I should not have assumed.

Mark this one closed. I will try to install using your method.

Auto-installers suck (see http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/auto-installers.htm). You're doing the right thing, using the install method we provide - it's really the only option. Thanks for resolving your thread. Please do as suggested per board rules (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,55415.0.html) if you should have questions in the future.
