I have an aviation site and a lot of my members would upload images to a few of the big aviation photo sites, jetphotos and Ainerliners.net etc. So to make it easier for them I was hoping that it would be possible that they could link to these through Coppermine. Instead of browing for a file to upload they would enter the url of the photo. Is there a plugin available that would do this?

No, such a plugin doesn't exist as far as I'm aware and we're not fond of this form of "hotlinking" (which is the equivalent of bandwidth theft imo) that you have in mind.

I appreciate that but the two sites I mentioned seem to allow it - they do provide links for embedding images into other forums and sites.

That's fine by me - go ahead and create a mod or plugin then that will do what you want it to do.

You could use the Remote videos plugin (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,60195.0.html) as basis.
