Title: [Solved]: Error Messages In Batch Uploader
Post by: AbsoluteAnnaSophia on December 13, 2009, 01:51:15 am
I read over previous threads as well as the docs, and didn't see anything like this, but if there is something out there that has already been posted, I would appreciate a link. :)
I've been trying to upload files into the gallery on my fansite and I keep getting the same error. After I upload the photos, none of the customary "signs" show up. When I click on the error message, this pops up:
Source: albums/photoshoots/unknown3/AnnaSophiaRobbWayneArmstrong.jpg --- Destination: albums/photoshoots/unknown3/thumb_AnnaSophiaRobbWayneArmstrong.jpg
Unable to create thumbnail or reduced size image.

I don't think my image is too large - it's only 570x380. Please help! (Also, I have no problem creating new albums, editing categories, transferring photos to a different album, etc. It's only with uploading, and on multiple photos.)

Please note that I did not set this gallery up, I just joined the website today as a coweb.

Welcome to the coppermine forums.

Whenever asking for support on Upload issues we ask you to do everything outlined here.

http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_support

Pay attention to all the settings mentioned in those docs as they are important in working out what may be the cause of your problems.

Additionally, if you do a search for "Unable to create thumbnail or reduced size image"  you will get tons of responses and some are, I am sure, going to provide the answer to your problem.

I did as you suggested, and now I have a new error message. On the top of the batch uploader, before I try to upload the photos, it says: Warning: the script can't write in this directory, you need to change its mode to 755 or 777 before trying to add the files !
How do I fix this? If this helps, this is the debugging output code:

We can see the debug code ourselves thanks, no need to post it.

The error means exactly what it says. It means the script cannot write files in that directory because it does not have the permission to do so. You will need to change those permissions a per the docs.

http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#permissions

This is something you will need to learn how to do yourself or ask your webhost for help on. Thee are plenty of good articles on the web explaining this. Google is your friend.

Thank you for your help, the problem has now been solved! As it turns out, I had an e-mail from the girl who primarily runs the site this morning, telling me she made a mistake and that I needed to go in a do as you suggested. Thanks so much for the help!  ;D
