I hope this is of some help (or will be) to some people. I am running a large photo gallery of 500 photographs and dozens of categories and albums at Ohio Valley Transit (http://www.ohiovalleytransit.com). I found it very cumersome and slow, even with a cable modem, to sort, move, and really do much at all with the photo gallery. To solve this problem, I started work on an "offline" version.
Coppermine Photo Gallery NL (as I call it at least) allows a user to connect to a MYSQL database and edit album, category, and photo information as if the user is on the internet using the web-interface. Time is saved and exporting the database to the web is easy.
Currently, the program imports only the "album" aspect of Coppermine. There are several other features to be added, such as sorting and advanced editing features. The URL for the Coppermine Photo Gallery NL version is here (http://www.cahaltech.com/page.php3?page=products/coppermine).
With this "offline" version, is it acceptable to use the Coppermine name for this program, or should another name be used?

hm, this isn't actually "Coppermine Photo Gallery", but rather an add-on, because as far as I can see it still requires you to have an online version of Coppermine running on some webspace, so as the naming is concerned I'd call it differently.

Thanks for the correction. As far as it is concerned, I was trying to emulate Coppermine Photo Gallery offline (as in adding photos and such and creating the SQL statements offline to be "exported" online).

I discussed this with the other devs, here are some comments:

We all agreed that your idea of what a "large" gallery is, is somewhat inappropriate, since 500 pics in the db could be called "tiny", 5000 could be called "small". Oasis' gallery is the largest we know of, with 200,000+ pics in the db ;).

Thanks for the suggestions - I will take them into consideration.
As for a lack of organization, that is not really the case but I have a tendency to classify things too much. As a result, I have way too many categories and it probably needs a good reorganization.
What the software will do is essentially make an offline copy of the databases for edit. From the software, you can save it to a local file for future editing. Currently it only supports albums (to see if this concept will work), but as time goes on, I will add support for pictures and so forth, and the ability add images and then upload them to the approperiate directories.
At least its planned in my head but its too confusing to type... :P

Sorry... to dig up an old post because I found this doing another search. I'm curious, how is this different than installing Apache/PHP/Mysql to a local machine and running Coppermine with all the functionality of adding photos and even sending ecards?

I guess the issue would be trying to sync two installs of coppermine. The intent of the roginal poster was that he could generate necessary SQL statements and the intermediate pictures etc.
Hmmm... interesting problem - keeping 2 installs of CPG in sync
