Title: Images in hierarchical folder
Post by: majestyk on October 14, 2003, 04:07:30 pm
Any plans on storing the pictures in hierarchical folder tree, named after the category/album they are located in? That would make the albums/userpics directory much tidier ...
Combined with an general "upload" directory where the pictures are fetched by the "batch upload" page it would make my snippet work out-of-the-box even for images uploaded via scp .. which would be very convienent ;)

And, ah, I forgot to mention my diff's patch nicely in CPG version 1.1.0.
Greetings,

This has been discussed before - The logic is that we have a DB for organising hierarchies - also once we have same photo multiple albums in place the directory structure would be a pain to handle.

Also things like creating downloadable zip files are better done if the images are in one place

I am spliting the thread....

In addition, storing albums in their individual folders becomes a nightmare once you begin moving pictures between albums or cross posting pictures to multiple albums...

Jasendorf, I agree with you ... but when you add every week about 400 to 500 pics .. creating no folders becomes crasy to find after the pics without coppermine.

If you upload this huge amount of pics, you should definitely use ftp (where you can create folders as you wish) and batch-add - I won't let this point count...

Dear Gaugau : I do already this :)

FTP is the unique solution for the moment : but with great tool which is Coppermine, I don't say anything :) It's quite perfect, even if I would like to have less pages to surf :)
