Title: Foliage - Theme for cpg1.4.x and WordPress 1.5
Post by: Gizmo on September 07, 2006, 02:10:36 pm
Hi All,

While searching for a bit of stray bytes on the information superhighway, I came across this very cool WordPress theme called Foliage Mod by Derek Punsalan - http://5thirtyone.com/foliagemod/ (http://5thirtyone.com/foliagemod/). I've been getting some positive feedback from WordPress users on the themes that I've ported lately and with this one being quite unique from what I've done, why not add this one to the collection.

Quote
The tiny bits of eyecandy are powered by the fabulous script.aculo.us library.
To access some of the items on a typical webpage or gallery such as links and title, you pull the tab to have them slide down into view. I've put the {SYS_MENU} tag there along with the title, description and some links and you can also have your welcome message there. If one uses their imagination, this could be used for a lot of fun!!  ;)

I've increased the main content area to allow for all the Config items to fit properly and to be able to show larger images. Other than this, this is all I've done to the style_wp.css file. Instead of integrating the WordPress style sheet into Coppermine's, I've left it separtate so that if anyone wants to make design changes then all they have to do is copy the style sheet from WordPress to Coppermine (of course this can go the other direction as well  ;)).

If you have any script issues, please check out Derek's blog above as many have been addressed for WordPress so this information will be useful but in most cases this shouldn't be a problem for an unmodified gallery installation. I've tested this in Firefox 1.5x and IE 6.0x with no issues. Obiviously Javascript needs to be enabled for the pull tab to function so there's a warning that appears when loading the page.

Enjoy!

Billy  :D

Oh, wow. I pulled the string (labelled "pull" for apparent reasons ;)) many times. Really a nice one.

My heart was pounding with anticipation that this theme would work on the demo gallery.  :) Man... I am so glad it does. There are a lot of possibilities for this theme that I hope people exploit.

Comments... comments... let's hear some comments!

[edit] Dang! I forgot to put the PSD files back in the zip folder before posting. These files will allow you to change the color scheme if you so desire. They are attached here. Sorry.

Very nice Gizmo, I was going to suggest this theme to you when I PM'd you, but I thought that would be too pushy considering you've been doing so many WP themes lately..Excellent job man!

May I make a suggestion...

Since you do such an awesome job at WP themes, maybe there should be a poll thread for WP themes so it can be seen which ones are most sought after.  Mine was Blix (there is a widgetized version of it now), but danuvious is working on it.

My .02$

Again, great job.

Thanks Guys! I've started working on a version of this that's focussed on a photography theme so I'll post it when done.

I don't know if I'm the only one with this, but I have a small problem when displaying the shelf extended in IE.  See http://thefabhouse.com/tmp/foliage_shelf.jpg . See the black block on either side.

I've checked this on FF & IE on several systems without any problems. What mods have you done to your galleries? If you post a link to your gallery then maybe we can get to the bottom of this.

Media, I couldn't load the Foliage theme on your gallery. Did you change the name or remove it?

My gallery is here (I won't leave the link here long as it's our personal family gallery).

No mods (to the core) that I can think of at the moment.

I'm noticing also that some of the thumbnails are not loading occasionally - could definitely be my end because it's so random...

OK, I think this is going to be computer system effect and not a theme design flaw.

When I scroll (in IE) and return to the top, the said blocks are fading erratically.  So, this is obviously a screen refresh issue vs. IE.

I have a quick capture of what I'm talking about here (http://rphmedia.net/capture.htm) so you understand what I mean. I'm guessing there's nothing we can do about that short of maybe upgrading our video cards ?  :-X

Hi Media,

I checked your site in both FF & IE and they load fine. I see this problem on certain sites (sometimes on this forum) randomly so it's probably a browser issue. Try googling for this issue.

Yeah, I'll look into it.

One more thing (not a real big issue): the theme ignores my maintable config setting of 100%.  I may like it better the way it is, but I'd like to be able to see what it would look like.

I'll check too. As for

the theme ignores my maintable config setting of 100%.
It's not ignoring it but rather doing as it's suppose to. I have the div that surrounds the maintable set to 650 pixels. If you want to change the width, you have to increase the content style in the style_wp.css file.

Hah ... that's the only file I didn't look into, 'cause I thought it was 'WordPress' specific.

Thanks, Gizmo !  A cool theme to say the least.

I don't have any mods at all, this is a fresh 1.49 test install.  After reading some replies since my last, I guess I'll have to look into issues with IE or the three boxes I've accessed my site from.

Ron (a.k.a. rphMedia) found an issue with a missing image on the right side of the shelf. I didn't even notice that it doesn't show in FF but does in IE. Anyway, I've fixed this problem and maybe it will fix the problems that some folks are experiencing with black boxes showing up. I've attached a new style_wp.css which has the fixes. What was missing was the height variable for the image.

Give this new style sheet a try and report back your results.

Thanks,

Gizmo

PS. Many thanks to Ron who has a keen eye!

Fixed the FF issue without a doubt.

IE issue still remains when a specific width is specified (smaller than screen.width resolution).

Setting the width to 100% vice 58em (some may not like that style) cures the mystery blocks.

My sample gallery (http://gallery.rphmedia.net) has the 100% width if you'd like to see what it looks like.

Hi,

I would like to ask for the permission of the author of this theme to port it over as an SMF theme.

If permission is granted I will give FULL credits to the author in the footer.

Please let me know if you will give the permission :)

If not then no problem - Great theme!! Love the pull tab - it simply the bombiest :D

I'm just the porter of Derek Punsalan's theme so you can ask him at www.5thirtyone.com (http://www.5thirtyone.com) and download the theme from there. Since it's an open source theme, there shouldn't be any problems but as you suggest, it's nice to be credited for your work so please leave in his footer.

Thanks :D

yes we have a very strict policy at SMF for crediting other peoples work. I'm part of the support team for Tiny Portal (a portal mod for SMF) whose lead developer is also one of the Developers at SMF - so strict conformity is always checked and asked for :D

Thanks for the info - I'll contact him soon

Hi,
First, Really great theme. :) not only because of the pull "toy", but it's just very well done. :) thanks!

Has anyone cured the "Black Boxes" to the sides of the shelf in IE?

Tried replacing the style_wp.css posted above, still have the same problem..
Am i missing anything?

(Setting the shelf width (line 64) to 100% as stated above "fixes" the issue with the black boxes, although it's not the prettiest fix...)

Thanks,
Benji

Hi all...I'm new of Coppermine, and this is a really good project.
I found all problems resolution and tips in this forum...now I'm trying some themes in my gallery and Foliage is fantastic.
I want it! ;D but I think that I have the same problem of benj_gos...and nobody solved it :(
I replace the old style_wp.zip with the new one, and I try the gallery on 2 computer but is the same.
I attach 2 files:
- 1.jpg
Shows what I see when "pulled menù" is all down...with 2 grey blocks on the sides

- 2.jpg
Shows what I see, for a little part of second, when I click on "pull" and the menù come back into the original position the 2 grey blocks disappear and I make a screenshot quickly after "pull" click.

I hope you can help me...excuse me for my bad english!
Many thanks in advice.

The black boxes are an issue with IE only. I've been traveling a lot lately and will do so through next week so I'll get back to it as soon as possible. I'll need to disect the css file and see what's the problem and of course if anyone has an answer, please let us know.  ;D Also, links to your galleries help a lot in troubleshooting.

Hi Gizmo,

I was wondering if you had made any progress figuring this issue out with the black boxes in IE when you pull the string. Your moded style_wp.css has fixed it for the firefox for me but IE is still an issue.

my IE version : 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

Thanks for all your help

Thanks for this fantastic theme, great work!

But can you please tell me where i can edit the entries in the pulldown menu (e.g. blog or the welcome-text)? I'm not very much into webdesign and was hoping to be able to change this settings in the gallery menu, but couldn't find anything there.

Thanks,
Roland

Great theme, thanks for sharing it. Have a quick question regarding font color on the preview window of an ecard.. when you preview it the title of the photo is unreadable due to it being pale yellow on a white background..when you receive the ecard it doesnt matter as the title comes out blue, is there anyway to change the yellow on the preview page to be able to read the title and info of the pic without having to highlight over it?? Looked in the style css, but didnt spot anything.

 :)Thanks
