Title: lightbox or equivalent feature
Post by: carshooter on January 21, 2004, 04:58:42 am
Hi there,

Just came across Coppermine (been a long time user of Gallery), and was wondering if there were plans on having a lightbox feature added. I want to be able to have someone look at the photo album, choose images (like favorites), and e-mail me a link that shows me the images that they've chosen. Since Favorites are stored locally, I don't believe that there is a way to make it work with the current setup.

Is there possibly a hack for this?

Thank you

Actually, if a user's Favorites is stored locally, is there a way to upload that information to the DB? Even less exciting, would it be possible to simply e-mail the admin (or whomever) just a plain-text email with image name only?

Thanks much!

Favs stored on the server database are in the works. Initially it will be just one single list and later will be expanded to have Folders/Category/Lightboxes whaterver you call them ;)

Hey tarique - that is great news. Thank you for the quick reply, too. Would you happen to have a timeline on when you think that might be ready? I need to make a decision this week on which software I'm going to use for a client. It would be nice to tell that client that that feature will be available, within say, a month.

Thank you!

Sorry - I cannot give you a time line... I will code it when I am free.

Why don't you try to do it yourself and give us the code? It is not very difficult, see the current implementation and instead of cookies store it in database table.

You will have plenty of help along the way from all the people here...

Ok, sounds good.

I will give it a shot and ask for help from board members. I'm surpised that more people aren't interested in this feature.

Thanks again for the speedy response.

btw, I just visited your gallery - wonderful layout and beautiful photos!

tarique - do you accept donations for requested additions to coppermine?

Hi carshooter,

if by donations you mean a mod, fix or add on, all are welcome.

If it is a mod for the lightbox, please post it here.

If it is a different mod, post it in the thread asking for it or the general forum.

Either way, if the dev team agree it is a useful mod/add on/hack, they will move it to the mods forum.

hi casper, by donation, i mean paying an unspecified sum of money to have a developer write the mod. for instance, i'm willing to spend somewhere around $20-50 for this mod. If 10 people feel that this mod is worthwhile, and are willing to pay $10 each for it, That's over $100 for that one add-on.
