Title: Proposition for the Google summer of code
Post by: ptitboutette on April 25, 2006, 11:40:51 pm

I am student in engineer school in French and I had used coppermine for some time.

I would like contibute to coppermine and why not via the Google Summer of Code.

First, with my use of coppermine, I noted some little improvements :

- In the "Last comments" section, when a picture have been comment several consecutive times, the picture is displayed several consecutive times. In this case, I think just display once (the last comment).

- I use miniBB forum, so I would like bridge coppermine with this application.

- In a picture from a digital photography device, lot of information are added by the device. This information include the date of creation of the picture. This information can be a good piece of information in the "File information" section.

- During the slideshow, some basic information will be a good thing like the title, the date of creation and perhaps the description. That can be parameter in the admin panel.

- To know who is online. Information can be enabled/disabled via the admin panel.

- To be able to expand the "User galleries" (via admin panel). Good thing to a little communoty of user.

- To be able to expand the categories (via admin panel). Good thing when you have lot of categories and lot of album in the categories. Number of row of thumbnails displayed should be parameter.

- A user or a group of user must be able to move a private album to a category.

- A user or a group of user must be able to create categories.

- A user should have a thumbnails in his profile.

I perhaps forgot some ideas ...

I would like also work in a theme which allows a new form of navigation inside the gallery. Currently, you just navigate in a album or in the last comments or uploads.
The goal is the creation of new link between picture and make possible the navigation by it.
That need new atribute for a picture like "theme" or/and use the date of creation.
So, You can record which image is called out after the image viewed and sorted thumbnails depanding on this point.

I can also translate to french release or documentation.

I can send you CV or other information on my formation, if you want.

Thanks for your consideration and your detailed suggestions.

We (the dev team) were discussing the Google Summer of Code and thought it was a great idea but then we missed the deadline for entering Coppermine as a mentoring organization.  The deadline is firm and so Coppermine will not be a part of it this year.  Hopefully things will go well enough this year so there will be another Summer of Code next year.  We will be careful next year to submit our application in time.

You are still welcome to contribute anything you like to Coppermine, on the appropriate forums, with one topic per thread (to keep things organized, easy to discuss, and easy to check off once complete).

If you are too busy (maybe doing Google's Summer of Code with another open-source group), we thank you for your suggestions and will note them on our list of things to consider.  Anyone else is welcome to tackle any of these suggestions as well (of course).  We might split them off if you won't be working on them (to the "Feature Requests" board and the "Bugs" board as appropriate).

Thanks again, and it was a good suggestion.
