Title: Issues with Batch add - Some files are not readable
Post by: mlail on February 11, 2006, 11:57:34 pm
While using batch add in CPM 1.43 w/ PHP 4.4.1...  most of my pic's are listed as "can't read that file" 404 error.  When using explorer in thumb nail view I can see it all just fine.  I can even double click the pic and it enlarges just fine.  These are jpg files.
When i followed the troubleshooting directions and upload only one pic it uploads just fine.  If I allow more than one pic upload they say they are uploaded fine but when I go and look at the album they are not there.

Ideas?  Yes I have looked around but do not see anything like this issue...

Thanks

I tried three times to access your gallery through the link you posted, but the connection timed out each time.

Just ran a few outside tests against the web site and all is well...  Other than a limited (43KB sec) upload connection.  Still you should reach it.

I can't connect to your site either.  Until the connection problem is sorted out, we can't offer much in the way of help.

I think it's a DNS issue.  I've asked another forum (friends) to help troubleshoot the issue and certain providers must not be getting my DNS entry's.  I'm need to talk to my DNS provider but until then you should be able to reach it via the IP address  71.68.52.82.  That address will change someday but for now it's good.  Under my menu - got to "Misc then Photo's.

Thanks

accessing your site using the IP address you provided doesn't work for me either, I can't even ping it. Are you by chance self-hosted?

How about a link to one of the files that doesn't display and/or gets a 404 error?

I'm able to access the site now through both the link in the first post and through the IP. Might have been propagation of new dns? In any case, please do provide the link that Kegobeer requested, and also it would help if you could set up a test user account.

My issue is not in the viewing of the files but in the batch update.  When I select the directory that has the files and CM starts to add them to a list that requires me to pick the album and the PIC's that I want to add to the Album.  Well that is where I get the 404 errors and it says SM can't read the files.  The name s are displayed but no check box is there since it says it cant read it.  The only way you can see what I am is if you have the rights to batch update.  I figure that most people us this to add the PIC's to their albums since it's much more efficient. ( if it works).

Are you on a *nix server? It sounds like this is a file permissions issue. I can duplicate the error you are getting if I set permissions (chmod) on my ftp file to 755. Try changing your permissions to at least 775. Make sure the change applies to the ftp folder and the files and folders inside of it.

well that would be interesting but I am admin on the server and have admin rights to mysql and the OS.  I will look into the chmod thing and see where it takes me.  Since I was last on I've started rebuilding my site on a hosted platform.  For the moment I have a trouble ticket in to them asking to give me access to mysql remotely.  No response back in the last couple of days so I will have to call them...  The first server is a windows 2003 box, the new one is Linux.

I checked out my rights and I am full admin.  If you look at this screen capture you will see that I am able to see some files but others I can not.  It looks like CMP is having difficulties reading the jpg's but IE or explorer does not.  :(

I'm about to give up on this tool and go searching for another one.  I don't see any other option without help.

Suggestions?

yes: do as suggested: I asked you to post a link, and Blueiris asked if you're on Lunix or Windows. Answer both questions, and we may be able to provide help. If you fail to do what supporters ask you for, then you're on your own. How are we suppossed to help if you don't do as suggested?

Saying
I checked out my rights and I am full admin.
Doesn't say or mean anything, as we can't tell if you're self-hosted or webhosted, virtual or dedicated server, full shell access or not etc.

Your rights as full admin and chmod on files and directories under *nix file systems are two different things. In order for CPG to read the files in your ftp directory, the chmod permissions on the directory and the files must be set correctly. If those permissions are not correct, you will get the 404 error that is shown in your screenshots.

Most good ftp programs will show the permissions on a directory and allow you to change them through the ftp program. Check the help files of your ftp program to find out how to view and change permissions.

Most good ftp programs will show the permissions on a directory and allow you to change them through the ftp program.
In my experience this is hardly the case - most of the times, the CHMOD properties aren't displayed correctly using an FTP app, just because the FTP user account doesn't have the proper privileges. Depends on server setup. Don't trust CHMOD properties in your FTP app - re-set them instead. Read details in the docs.
