Hey folks,
Let me be clear right up front, I know NOTHING about this stuff, so please offer any help as basically as you can .. chances are more than 100-1 that I won't understand what you think I probably should understand.
That said, I've just tried to install Coppermine and get it running on a site I'm working on .. and I can't get it to work. My site is www.skolaiimages.com . and the coppermine part can be found at http://www.skolaiimages.com/galleries/index.php
Ultimately I want to set it up so I can have my static pages on the rest of the site, and then have a searchable database section using coppermine. Right now, when I go to the coppermine 'galleries', I can't upload anything .. it either simply sits and runs a sif it's uploding, but does nothing, or it uploads, I click continue, go to the next sction, name the file, doa description, etc, then it givs me the message that the file could not be placed.
Anybody who can help out here, your assistance is most appreciated.
Thanks
Cheers
Carl

First, have you read the documentation?
Second, have you followed the troubleshooting guide?

hello kegobeer,
yes, and I'm re-reading it all again now .. half of it makes little sense to me, but I'm trying to figure it out.
I installed coppermine on lunarpages, using 'fantastico'. I deleted an 'install.php' file. I created galleries on the site via this page:
http://www.skolaiimages.com/galleries/albmgr.php?cat=0
but I can't seem to get it to work.
Thanks.

I've tried both uploading new files and also adding urls to images elsewhere on my site. Here's the message I get after I endter the file name, description, and keywords, and hit 'continue":
The previous file could not be placed.
You have successfully placed all the files.
Any ideas?
Thanks again.
Cheers

Ensure you did the permissions properly, they are vital.
http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#permissions_chmod
For lunarpages use 755 when the docs says "777 or 755"

Hello Nibbler,
Thanks. Yes, the permissions are all set at 755. I also tried the alteration to the picmgmt.inc.php file you listed in a recent thread where the poster was getting the same error message, but to no avail.
Thanks

You haven't done this - hard to help until you do.

Go into config and ensure that 'Method for resizing images' is set to GD2. If it still fails, run through http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_trouble

hey Nibbler,
That appears to have fixed the problem, thank you. I still can't seem to upload more than one pic at a time though. I have to change one of the scripts for Image Magick to work, correct? Also, how do I set it so it so that it can read the keywords already embedded in the IPTC data, rather than retype all the keywords everytime? Thank you.
Kegobeer,
Actually, I have read that page - several times. But none of the problems there, or the solution, seemed relevant to what I was running into.
Thanks.

@Walkingman: Those steps (setup of groups, uploads, and posting test user) are the only way we can see what's happening without guessing. That link does not give problems or solutions.

Hello kegobeer,
I'm sorry. I think haved reset up the program correctly now, if you want to take a look, I'd be most aprpeciative. The uploading thing is not such a big deal, because I can ftp the images to my site, then Batch-add them to the database (at least it seems to be working so far). The keywording stuff isn't coming out right though. And I'll have all KINDS of questions once I start trying to erdo the 'skin' so that it jives with the rest of my site.
My site is:
www.skolaimages.com
and the coppermine section can be found at:
http://www.skolaiimages.com/galleries/index.php
Thanks again.
Cheers

do as Nibbler suggested: re-read the section he refered to and do exactly as you're told there.
