Title: stramm mod package
Post by: MavricK on December 13, 2005, 06:27:00 am
Just wondering, wasn't Stramms mod package w/ the PM and avatars and other mods, supposed to be part of the new 1.4.x version? if not, it should be a future mod included. Maybe even a larger profile image instead of just avatar, for a self image picture in your profile. Thanks

I don't think they were on the to do list for 1.4. Since Stramm is on the dev team he could add some of the mods into 1.5. However, as great as they are, not all of them can be added since we want to keep Coppermine as streamlined as possible. It's not like the software that runs on your computer and they can add a bunch of stuff to it. We have to be mindful of the space Coppermine files take up on people's websites, the bandwidth they use when they get accessed, and how fast they get rendered on a viewer's computer. That is determined in part by file size and code complexity.

Starmm's mod package was created way after cpg1.4.x went into feature freeze stage, so even if we would have wanted to include it with cpg1.4.x, we couldn't have done so. New features mean new translations and debuging starting from scratch, that's why there is a feature freeze at a certain stage during development, to allow the code to become mature and to give translators time to work on a stable version.
However, I think that there are nice features in Stramm's package - some of them will probably make it into the next version, but definitely not all of them. As Thu suggested, we will discuss this in the closed dev-only board in detail.
Therefor, marking this request as "turned down", which doesn't mean that all features of the modpack are turned down, but the inclusion of the whole pack is.
