Title: [Help wanted]: translations for coppermine 1.2.0
Post by: Joachim Müller on October 02, 2003, 09:21:47 pm
We're reaching a final phase on our way to the release of CPG 1.2.0 RC1!
For this release we're looking for people who are willing to contribute translations. The original translators of the language files of CPG1.1.0 have been contacted and asked to provide a translation; if you're one of them, you could just grab this text and do a translation on it - it contains everything that has been changed from version 1.1.0 to the current version.
Code: [Select]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So far, Coppermine has been translated into:
Arabic (العربية), Bosnian (Bosanski), Bulgarian (Български), Chinese Big 5 (台灣), Chinese GB2312 (中国), Czech (&#x010C;esky), Danish (Dansk), Dutch (Nederlands), English (English), Estonian (Eesti), Finnish (Suomea), French (Francais), German (Deutsch), Greek (Ελληνικά), Hebrew (עברית), Hungarian (Magyarul), Italian (Italiano), Japanese (日本語), Korean, Latvian , Norwegian (Norsk), Polish (Polski), Portuguese (Português), Portuguese (Brazilian) (Português (Brazil)), Russian (Русский), Slovenian (Slovensko), Spanish (Espa&ntilde;ol -Castelano), Swedish (Svenska), Thai (ไทย) and Turkish (Türkce).[/size]

Why is your language not among them? It's easy to do a translation (no coding skills needed) - there's a separate language file for each language with just text (more or less) in it.
There are hundreds of languages; I've just picked a list from somewhere on the web - those that I find particularly interessting (because there are a lot of people speaking it; no rating!) are marked bold, but all translations are welcome:
[size=9]Aboriginal Languages, African Languages, Afrikaans, Akha, Akkadian, Albanian (Shqip), Aragonese, Arberisht, Armenian, Assyrian, Asturian (Asturianu), Aymara, Bahasa Malaysia, Basque, Belarussian, Bengali, Berber, Bikol, Bisaya, Brahui, Breton, Burmese, Buruskaski, Catalan (Català), Cebuano, Cherokee, Cheyenne, Chinook, Coptic, Cornish, Croatian (Hrvatski), Cymraeg (Welsh), Dakota, Dalekarlian, Dari, Dolomitic Ladinian, Eaiea, Egyptian, Esperanto, Farsi, Filipino, Frisian, Gaelic (Scottish), Galician (Galego), Georgian, Guarani, Gujarati, Gypsy, Hakka, Hawaiian, Hindi, Hmong, Icelandic (Íslenska), Ido, Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), Inuktitut, Irish, Jakelimotu, Jerriais, Kamilaroi, Kannada, Kazakh, Kerala/Malayalam, Khakas, Khowar, Klingon, Konkani, Kreyol, Kurdish (Kurdi), Lakhota, Lao, Latin, Lithuanian (Lietuviu), Loglan, Lojban, Luganda, Macedonian, Maltese, Mandinka, Manx, Maori, Marathi, Mayan, Mingo, Mon, Mongolian, Montenegrin, Myanmar, Native American Languages, Neelan, Nepali, Nordic, Occitan, Ojibwe, Oneida, Papiamentu, Pashtu, Patois, Paulic, Persian, Pidgin, Punjabi, Quechua, Romani, Romanian (Româneste) [No-Diacritics/fara-diacritice], Romanova, Romansch, Sami, Northern, Sanskrit, Sardinian, Saxon, Scanian, Serbian [Cyrillic/Srpski],  Sesotho, Sinhala, Slovakian (Slovenská), Somali, Spanish [Latin America/Argentina, Sranan, Sudovian, Swabian, Swahili, Swiss, Tagalog, Talossan, Tamil, Tatar, Tceqli, Theloskrit, Tibetan, Tongan, Turkmen, Uighur (Uyghurche), Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, Volapuk, Walloon, Wolof, Yi, Yiddish, Yiklamu, Yugoslav, Zarma.

This is how you do a translation:

@migon: you were supposed to:
a) send me the stuff that has been changed
or
b) translate the whole file anew

Putting the stuff that has changed right at the beginning of a full translation won't do any good - this is not the way a language file works, the changes have to be inserted at the correct place!

As I can't make heads or tails out of the other files you added I dropped them.

I'll also drop

Thanks for the chance.
I have two questions:
1. Is 1.2 lang file backward compatible with 1.1D? Here are variable diff:
 - Line 926 says user_active while in 1.1D it says user_active_cp!
 - Line 931 says user_location while in 1.1D it says user_from
 - Line 933 says user_occupation while in 1.1D it says user_occ
these are the only variable changes I saw.

2. Is the phpNuke version of the lang file and the standalone version the same?

Haven't looked into it in detail, but I think the phpnuke and the standalone language files are different (this is probably necessary for cpg-for-phpnuke to comply with the phpnuke-standards).
This means a language file for CPG 1.2.0 (standalone) will be backward compatible (that is: can be used with) to CPG 1.1.X
Out of the language file for 1.2.0, the phpnuke-heads in the dev team are going to build a phpnuke language file (I don't know about compatibility issues here).
If you want to compare language file versions, I suggest you compare the files of the standalone packages, as they're the "originals" and everything "phpnuke-ish" is a spin-off.

GauGau,

I've already sent you an updated Hebrew translation which includes the new strings.

I would like to suggest that next time when new strings are added, they should be marked (as a php comment) in the English prototype, in order to make them easier to find. Eg. on every new line add something like "// NEW".

Regards,

Eyal.

[off topic]:diff viewers

There are several good diff viewers (that let you see the difference between two text files) - Beyond Compare (http://www.scootersoftware.com/) is a (very good) shareware that will stop working after 30 days unless you buy it.
Two free diff viewers for windows that offer almost the same:
ExamDiff (http://www.prestosoft.com/ps.asp?page=edp_examdiff) and WinMerge (http://winmerge.sourceforge.net/)...

Just thought I'd recap the translations Gaugau has posted as done so people can see more clearly whether their language has been translated.

Done:
Hungarian
Norwegian
Finnish
Italian
Hebrew
Greek
Danish
Spanish
Dutch

Others have said they've sent:
Arabic
Turkish

Of those languages from 1.1.1, that leaves:

Bosnian (Bosanski), Bulgarian (Български), Chinese Big 5 (台灣), Chinese GB2312 (中国), Czech (&#x010C;esky), Estonian (Eesti),  French (Francais), German (Deutsch), Japanese (日本語), Korean, Latvian, Polish (Polski), Portuguese (Português), Portuguese (Brazilian) (Português (Brazil)), Russian (Русский), Slovenian (Slovensko),  Thai (ไทย)

I would guess German and French have been handled.

All those that are eager to see a release of Coppermine 1.2.0: let's see if we can get enough translations for the release - in other words: if you speak a language that hasn't been translated yet and you want the next version to be released, do your translation (and do it quick :wink: ).

some of the translators should keep in my mind the length of certain phrases they translate. look at the demo in theme hardwired with the french language. it `breaks'. restricting 'images les plus populaires' to 'plus populaires' etc wouldnt create the excess space in the tables.

(http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/images/flags/vn.gif)Vietnamese has been done

The rar-compression seems to be very popular in Asia (many asian language files were submitted in rar), but it has got one main disadvantage: it's not free! Please do not submit rar-files, use zip or tar.gz.

But hey, thanks for the submission anyway: I'll put it up in the download section as soon as I decompressed it.

Thanks for your submission - I've integrated your changes into the current russian language file - you can download it here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.2.0lang_russian.zip?download

Please note: the original translator of russian for cpg1.1.x didn't bother to translate everything into russian - only the bits the user can see; the admin stuff (or most of it) is still in english! This makes a (in my eyes) horrible mix-up of english and russian e.g. on the config page. I'd therefor request you to download the above mentioned package and to translate the missing parts as well. Thank you in advance.

There has been a Brazilian language file for CPG1.1.x which was made into a CPG1.2.0 language file by adding the new bits in English, so you'll have it much easier, translating only the bits that were changed from CPG1.1 to CPG1.2.0
Please use the english language file (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.2.0lang_english.zip?download) as base (to have the most recent changes) and use the Brazilian one (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.2.0lang_brazilian_portuguese.zip?download) only for reference or when in doubt.

Yes, you sent me a fix the other day, while Ron, the original translator sent me one as well. As I don't speak dutch, I can't say which version is better - I have to trust the translators. And when in doubt, I rely on the "original" translators - that's why Ron's version went into the release. Remember, I asked the two of you to come up with a language file you could both agree with, and all I got were arguments.

This thread is not the place to flame, so I just consider your post as non-existant.

Title: Crappy Norwegian language file
Post by: FinnK on December 21, 2003, 11:45:05 pm
I have looked into the Norwegian language file and I must admit it is not just bad spelling that should be corrected!

There are in fact a good number of places the translation is bad or outright wrong.

Of course some translation choices are a matter of taste, but when they make the script difficult to understand it should be corrected.

So now there are several people having views on the Norwegian translation. What do we do? Each one for our own "best" version or what?

(I have not looked into the -utf-8 file)

Title: Serbian translation
Post by: mikis on January 07, 2004, 01:06:16 am
Hello, I just made Serbian (Cyrillic) translation of Coppermine 1.2.1. You can download it from:

http://www.mikis.org/lang/cpg-1.2.1-serbian.zip

I put both windows-1251 and UTF-8 versions in the archive. I *think* you have problem with tools (iconv?) you are using for ansi/ascii => utf conversion of non-latin files; for example, I am almost sure (but did not have time extensive checkin) that Russian, Greek and Arabic UTF-8 translations do not work as they should; Hebrew and Chinese BIG-5 are ok.

I also noticed that in almost all UTF-8 versions of language files variable $lang_charset is NOT set to "UTF-8" but to same ANSI/ISO codepage as in non-UTF files?

I can post you screenshots if you like, and I would like that someone confirm  or deny this.

I also included Serbian flag, in your instalation you have only Yugoslav (YU) flag, but I think Serbian is more apropriate (there is no more "Yugoslavia"; country is now officialy called "Serbia and Montenegro" and old flag is about to be changed). Where did you find those flags? Is there a "proper" Serbian flag in there? I made this one by rotating Russian flag (Serbian is same as Russian, but upside down), so maybe all "shadows" are not as they should be.

If you want, I can easily make Serbian Latin version of translation, so old Yugoslav flag can remain for it.
Title: [Help wanted]: translations for coppermine 1.2.0
Post by: Joachim Müller on January 07, 2004, 10:02:54 am
Serbian is available in the demo (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/?lang=serbian) and download section (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89658&package_id=98540&release_id=205317).
There are however unsettled issues: the flag looks indeed strange, and the charset issue that arises with all cyrillic languages. I modified mikis' original file to use windows-1251 as charset (works for me)...

Thanks :) Sorry, I made UTF-8 version first, than converted it to windows-1251, but forgot to change lang_charset in serbian.php.

Any idea where did those flags came from? Maybe they have "proper" Serbian flag?

And please, in drop-down form on demo page, change name of the language to:

Serbian (& #1057;& #1088;& #1087;& #1089;& #1082;& #1080;)

so that cyrillic version is allways displayed properly. Please remove spaces between & and #, I had to put them so that you can see code in your browser.

What "charset issue with cyrillic" did you have in mind?

Title: [Help wanted]: translations for coppermine 1.2.0
Post by: mikis on January 08, 2004, 12:36:38 am
That's why everyone should use UTF-8 :D It is the only way to see everything on all platforms. A friend of mine did lot of testing with various cyrillic (Serbian) code pages on different platforms. Windows-1251 works on all major platforms -- Windows, Mac, Linux, but it fails on Solaris and SGI; ISO-8859-5, on the other hand works on Linux, but it requires additional settings on Windows (especially on Win 95/98/Me), which most people do not know how to make.

So only "true" solution which works on every platform is using UTF-8.

Now, regarding Russian UTF-8 translation and others that I mentioned that are broken. Here is why it is broken and how it looks (at least in my browsers -- IE and Opera 7):

And here is how it should look:

I made "proper" Russian UTF-8 version and put it here:

http://www.mikis.org/lang/russian-utf8-ok.zip

so you can download it, compare it and see what is wrong (I made it by converting Win-1251 version to UTF-8 with UltraEdit, and changing "$lang_charset" to UTF-8 ).

Title: polish translation for CPG 1.2.1
Post by: pluszak on January 30, 2004, 03:23:22 pm
admin please read!

Hi all!

Recently I found that in CPG 1.2.1 there is NO polish language support yet and decided to change that! So as an effect of my efforts please feel free to download (http://www.plusz.futuremedia.pl/cpg/cpg_polish_lang_support.zip) zipped translation from my homepage, unzipp to your coppermine basedir/lang directory. now you are able to change language setting to polish, using coppermine configuration menu.

IMPORTANT: I have found a bug in HARDWIRED THEME: notify that in template.html file of this theme there is a string:

Code: [Select]

<html dir="{lang_dir}">
<head>
<title>{TITLE}</title>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset={charset}" />

instead of (my correction):

Code: [Select]

<html dir="{LANG_DIR}">
<head>
<title>{TITLE}</title>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset={CHARSET}" />

Which means that language and charset of the page will NOT be displayed because of wrong VARIABLE USE. Please repair this.

Move this post to the Modifications/Add-Ons/Hacks thread plz.
Feel free to add this translation to the current CPG distribution.
Cheers  :)

I've translated CPG into catalan language.

http://www.aditel.org/~royo/script/cpg.1.2.1.catalan.zip

(edit) I've got the same problem that the old french language file: I can't create albums with catalan language set...  could you fix this??

Congratulations and thanks for this excellent gallery!

Thanks for your contribution - I think I fixed the issues you had by adding some extra backslashes in the translations for the JavaScript alert boxes.
Get the catalan language file for cpg1.2.1 (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89658&package_id=98540&release_id=205317) - browse the catalan demo (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/?lang=catalan)

[size=9]P.S. I added you to the tester group (will give you access to future non-public pre-releases). Currently, we're preparing cpg1.3.0 for final release - care to do a translation for cpg1.3.0 (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=4623) as well?[/size]

Great, please reply to the thread cpg1.3.0-translation thread and assign catalan translation to you. There's a translator's guide that comes both with the english language file for cpg1.3.0 (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.3.0lang_english.zip?download) as well as the cpg1.3.0beta4 package (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.3.0beta4.zip?download).

Post a link here to the file, and one of the devs will put it in the download section.

We are close to releasing version 1.3.0, would you be interested in doing that for us?

the file you uploaded is encoded in utf-8 (although the name says something else). The encoding in your document says it's is "iso-8859-1" (which obviously isn't so).
Using http://www.iconv.com/iconv.htm I wasn't able to convert the encoding to iso-8859-6 (which is what I found out to be used for farsi usually).
The workaround appears to place the file you sent along into the language folder of coppermine, where it will be treated as "regular" file but internally it's utf-8, which seems to work with most browsers, but I'm not too sure. Could you do some research on this and upload the file in "regular" iso-8859-6 instead of utf-8 as well?
For now, I'll add it as-is to the download section, together with a note linking to this thread.

Persian/Farsi for cpg1.2.1 can be found in the language download section (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89658&package_id=98540&release_id=205317): Download (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.2.1lang_persian.zip?download) - Demo (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/?lang=persian)

Thanks for the submission - you've been added to the tester group.
