Title: Why is my "karma" low?
Post by: rstober on June 16, 2005, 09:52:04 pm
My Karma is -1, others have 12, 14, ect. How do get more "karma"?  :-\\

Thank you.

Karma can be raised or lowed by other members of the forum.

If you ask stupid questions, don't read the docs, then get pissy when you don't get an answer you like ... generally people give you negative karma.

Starting a flame war is generally the best way to make your karma take a nosedive.

If you are particularly helpful and help some folks out, give a good set of advice, folks may be inclined to pat you on the back with some positive karma.

I would say, the inclination of travel of karma is much the same as bicycling Mt. Everest... it's a lot easier to go down, than up.

From skimming the posts, I don't see specific ones that were obnoxious though there was a double post... Another possibility is sending unsolicited PMs.

There are only particular usergroups that can give/take karma, but the giver/taker is not tracked, so there is no simple method to tell who actually gave you negative karma, or for what reason. Basically, it's meant for moderators mainly, to keep track of users who constantly "misbehave". The karma mod itself comes with the bbs app "SMF" that we use, however I modified it slightly (the restrict it to certain usergroups only). When doing an update recently, I must have made a mistake somewhere, as regular users aren't even meant to see user's karma at all - it's only meant to be a moderator tool. I'll have to look into the code and maybe re-apply the modifications I made once.
Don't be alarmed, -2 karma won't have any negative consequences for you. Making good posting (by giving support, good bug reports, contributing hacks, themes etc.) will eventually raise your karma, see http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=14227.0

I have the worst karma ... and I'm not dead :)

Sometimes I give Rod negative karma, even if he hasn't done anything wrong.  Makes me feel better when I have a bad day   ;D

Just kidding, Rod.   ;)
