Title: Uploading Backup Pictures to a working database
Post by: hokum on February 23, 2005, 10:53:45 pm
Hi all.

Somehow, all my images and a number of folders got removed from my web area. I have no idea how but it did, that question will be for another thread.. :)

However, I now have a database full of comments, id's etc. that all correspond to images that are no longer there. If I upload the pictures all that happens is they get added to the database rather than simply replacing the old images of the same name.

So my question is, how can I get my pictures back onto the website and associated with all the exisiting views and comments?

I'm sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I've had a look around but all I seem to see are database backup threads, not picture backup threads.

Cheers for any help.

Siggy

The database just keeps track of where the pictures are. If you place your files in the same location, the database should find them without you having to batch add or upload.

that was what I was thinking.

However I have the situation where I have looked at my SQL and for instance I have one picture whose filename is 102_0210.JPG and whose filepath is mandy_walker_2003/

I've uploaded that picture, to that particular directory and I still cant get anything displayed. Do you think there could be anything else?

Thanks for your help.

EDIT: AHA! I have that picture appearing now but the thunbnail still doesnt work. I think my next step is to just run through all the settings and make sure they are ok. thanks again for your help

Go to admin tools and recreate the thumbnails.

many thanks, thats done the trick.

Now to investigate what I need to do to protect my files from getting wiped by what was called a "rogue script" on my ISP forums. I feel another thread coming on!  ;)

Actually I'm just going to see if I can get everything up and running first. thanks again for the assistance.
