Title: [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.3.x
Post by: Joachim Mller on March 16, 2004, 07:10:56 pm
Hello all,

cpg1.3.2 has been released as stable version, but translations are still welcome.
For the languages that won't be covered by the original translators (or for new languages that haven't been done so far), we'll need "new" translators as well.

This is the mail that went out to the translators:
Quote
Hello all,

the release date for cpg1.3.0 is coming near, so it's time to ask all translators of previous version of coppermine for help again.
We (the coppermine dev team) would really appreciate if you could again do the translation for the new version.

In the full package you'll find (as usual) the english.php in the lang folder. There's also a translator's guide in the docs folder - look for the file "translation.htm". Additionally (as this package is a special "translator's edition"), we've added the "old" language files from cpg1.2.1 as a subfolder of the lang-folder for reference.

You can get the whole cpg1.3.0beta2 package here: [edit GauGau: link removed, as it's for the "original translators" only] (1.5 MB).
If you're not going to do a test install you won't need the full package, go for the english language file then (that comes along with the translator's guide): http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.3.0lang_english.zip?download (26 KB)

Please understand that this is still beta software and not recommended yet for use on a production site; of course it would be great if you could not only translate the new version to your language, but test it as well and report bugs on the board: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/

Please send your translation back as soon as possible so we can finally release cpg1.3.0 ;-)

This mailing goes out both as PM over the coppermine support board and as email to make sure we can contact all translators. Please don't be offended if you receive this twice. If you wish to be removed from the translator list, please reply and tell us so as well.

The Coppermine community is looking forward to hear from you :-D

GauGau (aka Joachim Mller)
- Coppermine dev team -
I will modify this first posting constantly to keep it up to date, please watch it for modifications.I packaged up some translations for others to test them: download here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89658&package_id=98540&release_id=224460) or get the most recent versions from the web-CVS (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/devel/lang/) (it will take some time for the web-based CVS-interface to actually show files that were committed - if the translations don't show for you right now, visit the web cvs later)

If you want to submit a translation, just put your translation file(s) into a zip or rename it from "yourlanguage.php" to "yourlanguage.txt" and attach it to a posting (reply) on this very thread (when composing your message, just click "Additional options" at the bottom left of the screen and attach the file to your message as the instructions say.).

Cheers

Does Ron Bos the official dutch translation as usual? If not my Dutch translation is almost ready (have to do some parts of the faq-section only).

Ron hasn't replied yet - could you please try to contact him and talk this over with him? I think, as you already have put work into this and are going to finish the translation soon, why not let the two of you work on the translation? It's always better to have two editors, if they coordinate their efforts. My suggestion is: finish your translation, send it to Ron, so he can share his thoughts on it with you, and then the two of you submit one version of the translation you both have agreed upon (both will get credits). Does this sound OK to you?

Post by: dvilloldo on March 22, 2004, 02:45:17 pm
Hi.

I am finishing now the 1.3.0 version of the spanish translation. I had made a big update and improvement of all the content...  :wink:

One question: in "upload.php" file section, there are a lot of new lines (about customized and multiple-file upload, i think), but I can't find how to test the section... how?
[edit GauGau]Good question, I updated the first posting in this thread[/edit]

I will send the all-translated-and-improved file soon... maybe in 3 or 4 hours only...  :lol:

Greetings.
Title: Spanish 1.3.0 translation complete
Post by: dvilloldo on March 22, 2004, 05:04:58 pm
Hi.

Spanish 1.3.0 translation complete...  8)

You can take it from here:
http://coppermine.grumpywolf.net/lang/spanish.zip

I will review it again and again in the next days, and maybe improve little more some questions. For example, in coppermine sometimes the text talking about "files". Other times, "images". Other times, "pictures".  Other times, "photos". I think all is the same, but i really can't find a good spanish word to include all them...  :wink:

If in the next days I have a new version and I don't see 1.3.0 is realesed yet, I will send it again to you.  :wink:

Greetings and thanks to all the Coppermine team! You all really doing a good work!!  :)

you're right - when omni introduced his great video mod we decided that it shouldn't be "pics", but "files", so we changed some bits in the language file - maybe we have overlooked some occurences of "pics". In some cases (e.g. ecards context) it must stay "pics", as you can't send other files than pics as ecard.

I didn't translate prev. versions, but I'd like to participate in this one.
Please inform me, if I can start translating.

Post by: Joachim Mller on March 28, 2004, 08:17:18 am
@tanfwc: this thread is reserved for translation issues only, please don't post anything else here. You can't join the tester group now - only people who have contributed in the past become testers (we want to make sure they know their way around coppermine, so they can really test new versions without the need to ask for support on existing features).

@windhunter: I'm sorry, this is my fault: s55hh (the translator of the existing slovenian language file) has already volunteered to do version cpg1.3.0 as well, but I had forgotten to update the first posting on this thread. I did so now: slovenian has been taken. Thanks for your willingness to help - maybe you could contact s55hh and offer your help (proof-reading etc.) to him, as it's always better if two people had a look.

Title: [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.3.0
Post by: Joachim Mller on March 30, 2004, 08:25:39 am
Haven't got feedback from the original translators yet, so I guess chinese is still free to be taken.
I understand very little of non-european languages and alphabets, but I noticed there has been a heated discussion over the translations when cpg1.2.1 came out between some chinese-speakers, so I guess you have to be very picky in the way you translate - maybe you could have some friends who can proof-read your translation.
I have sent you a pm with the email address you can send your translation to - please make sure to have a proper subject line for the email (I get so much spam these days).

see the first posting in this thread (just replying so people on notify realize there are news):
Quote from: gaugau
The release of the public beta of cpg1.3.0 will probably be this week - all translators who would like to have their language file included in this beta (so potential bugs can be ironed out before they go into the final release) are requested to send in their translations asap.

P.S. please don't ask when exactly the release will be, this thread is reserved for language/translation issues only

Peter,

thanks for the submission, I've added it both to the cvs and the download section.

GauGau

P.S. Please don't touch the stuff at the top of the language file (Starting with $Id) - this bit is being used by the CVS and will be replaced automatically. You won't have to send an utf-8 version along - I create them for the package from fresh every time the language file changes.

I guess you use the utf-8 version then. Let me explain: one very important bit in your translation is charset (in your case
Quote
$lang_charset = 'iso-8859-2';
). It's important to have the proper charset there, because I create the utf-8 version of the language file using the tool iconv (http://www.iconv.com/iconv.htm), where I have to specify the source and target charset/encoding format. If the charset is set wrong in the original file, there may be "funny" results in the utf-8 version.
Please double-check and report back.

Hi friends,
I am having problems with my spanish character set, I have tried using the default language and the utf-8, but whenever a character has an accent (tilde for eg. ) it is not shown properly. I have seen the spanish working well on your demo page.
I am using cgp1.3.0beta4
What could be going wrong?
Thanks Roshlin

Hi Friends,
I had the above problem for a week, but now the spanish caracters work well.
I did not make any changes so I don't know what could have caused the problem or solved it.
For now it works, so everything fine.  :)
 Thanks

If you experience problems with characters not being displayed correctly, make sure you have the correct browser settings - if you disabled language encoding auto-select in your browser or if the charset doesn't exist on your client there will of course be display problems. When reporting such problems, please make sure to tell us what browser you use and what encoding settings you have.

Webfrater has submit Croation, Wormie has submit danish. Both language files are in the cvs, but haven't been added to the download section yet, because problems with http://www.iconv.com not being accessible keep me from creating utf-8 versions. If you need the files for testing, check out the devel branch of the cvs.

Hi, I have converted Monkeys BIG5 translation to GB-UTF-8 but don't know where to post it, so it's here
http://yellowriverarts.com/noah/chinese_gb.zip

Being new to Cpg, I had a lot trouble with IE forgetting the coding setting on various pages for the non-unicode GB version (I may not have respected the protocol for language files... :-[), so I'm sticking with my utf-8 version which works fine, and allows users to mix english and chinese in their descriptions etc, and also allows me to include chinese and english wherever I like.  Still under construction but for those who are curious: http://www.yellowriverarts.com/art  (http://www.yellowriverarts.com/art).

I do have a non unicode gb version if anyone would like it - but I just can't get it to work, and don't have the time.

Hope this helps someone,
Neil

hm, not standards-compliant, but it works (and that's all that counts for now). Thanks for your submission. I have added it to the cvs and to the demo page (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/?lang=chinese_gb), will have to look into the charset issue once the iconv homepage comes up again.

Post by: eolica on May 24, 2004, 08:54:37 pm
Sorry, but I've been rather busy in the last weeks  :(
I have two versions of the translation in italian: one by myself and one that has been sent to me by amicigg.
None of the two is complete  >:( : they both lack the translation of the help.

I promise that this evening I'll try to make one out of the two, and see what I can do to fill the holes

Thanks also to amicigg and canelli I've completed the Italian language file.  :D
I stayed with the less general images instead of files, preferring to keep the hard and appreciated work by omniscientdeveloper "under the skin".
The "canelli" edition uses document.

Gaugau: I removed my e-mail from the file. For some unknown reason I'm getting several mails per day with a virus, and the sending address looks to be the one of the original translator of 1.1   >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(

Here my version with some translation bugs corrected.

Has eolica said, I use the word "documento" (document) where CPG use file .
the english term "image" translated in italian sounds "immagine"
CPG use the more generic term "file" when refferes to image or video or audio or any kind of files a users can uploads, so I used the generic term "documento"

Any news about the Swedish translation?
If you're ready to do the translation or you want to contribute to it, could you please contact Einstein (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?action=profile;u=3773), who agreed to do the swedish translation some time ago?

Thanks

GauGau, I'll send my updated Serbian translation soon.
Please zip it and then attach it to a posting on this thread, my mailbox has been that chaotic lately (with over 300 spam/virus mails per day) that I tend to delete some mails that are not meant to.

My current thoughts is that I won't even use Coppermine for my webpages. So I declare the "Swedish translator" task as abandoned.

Please attach the translation to your posting (click on "Additional options" at the bottom left of the screen when replying). Is your translation based on neil's translation (Chinese_gb) or did you make it from scratch?

Title: Spanish Mexico
Post by: DEm on June 05, 2004, 04:09:14 am
Hi ill like to give it a shot with the spanish of mexico its going to be pretty much like "dvilloldo (Grumpywolf)" Spanish version, but with some diferent words not that much, BUT i have a huge question, how do i link a flag with the php file? is there a value inside the php file i was thinking 'lang_country_code' => 'mx',  so it will display the mexico flag but it didnt apear to work, maybe it was a cache problem, but im not sure so im asking :)

as the variations of the language are very small im planing to let the credits and just add my part  ('trans_name'=> 'Daniel Villoldo (Grumpywolf) Spain Spanish modified by DEm to Mexico Spanish', or something like that of course if Daniel has no inconvenient with that

so be it  :)

Title: Re: [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.3.0
Post by: Casper on June 05, 2004, 12:43:30 pm
Hi,

Please do the translation, then attach it as a zip file on this thread.
Gaugau will then create a utf-8 version, and will add the required strings to the arrays in 2 files in the include folder, which will allow the language to be used, and the flag to show.

The 'karma' is a way of showing good or bad users.  Posters who do good things for the community will receive positive karma, those who cause problems will get negative.  I beleive this can only be done by certain 'ranks' within the community, and as it is new, has not really got going yet.

the disticntion between diacritics (special chars) and non-diacritics is not the same as the difference between an iso-8859-2 charset and utf-8! Therefor, your second package "no diacritics" is incorrectly named "...-utf-8...".

There's chinese_big5 and chinese_GB available. There have been no changes in the language files, comparing cpg1.3.0 to cpg1.3.1 or cpg1.3.2. This means you can use cpg1.3.0 language files with cpg1.3.2 as well.

Title: Re: [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.3.x

Hello Joachim,

thanks for your reply. The Uighurs (also written: Uyghurs), we, use two writing systems (Arabic script & Latin Script). The language pack that I have posted (made by somebody else) uses Latin Script.

My answer to your first question is no, we don't have non-latin characters apart from .

You are right. we don't yet have a country code. UG is robbed by Uganda ha ha ha  ;D The 3 letter code for Uighur is "uig"  http://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/IG/ert/iso639.htm . So, the official language code/ID for Uyghur is "uig". please DO NOT use "cn-xj".

Your suggestionn to use that flag may not please the Chinese authorities since it is forbidden to use that flag in China. As a symbol of democracy, it is a good thing to have a logo to identify a language/an ethnic group(We encourage the Chinese gouvernment to propose something like this to identify the Uyghur people, as well as Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region). I have no objection to your proposition, you have the liberty to decide! thanks very much!

Regards,

Uyghur

N.B.: The official spelling of our ethnic group (8-9 million off.) by the ISO is now Uighur. But sometimes we also use "Uyghur", it is under disscussion. Please keep using "Uighur" for the moment.

Filipino hasn't been done yet, please start the translation (I'll modify the first posting in this thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=4623.msg20005#msg20005) to say you have assigned this to yourself). Read the translator guide that is in your coppermine package inside the docs folder, or read it here: http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/docs/translation.htm

hello gaugau
monkey has given me the permission to do the chinese translation. and i will be running the website cpg.38.com that monkey had, which is just a chinese support board running smf. im also the translator for smf. what im thinking is maybe change some text strings to reflect on smf's, just to make it more consistent. i haven't looked into the language files yet, and maybe i won't have to change anything. but if i do, do i send you the new language files or just wait for the next cpg version? thanks
Title: Re: [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.3.x

Just put any modified or new language files into a zip file, or rename it to yourlanguage.txt and attach it to a posting on this thread (using "Additional options" at the bottom left of the screen when composing a message). The current language files will be in use for at least 2 months before any new translation requests will go out to the translators (but don't sue me if it will take even longer before there's a feature freeze for the next coppermine version). You can (and are encouraged to) submit fixes to language files at any time.

Thanks for your contribution, I modified the very first posting on this thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=4623.0), adding Kurdish to the download section and the demo and making you member of the translator group as well as chaning the credits on the team page (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/team/). As I understand that the kurdish people is striving for independency in various countries I realize there are issues with the symbols in use, that's why I thought I'd ask (please don't get me wrong): is the flag "politically correct" in the sense of "will the turkish (or any other country the kurdish territory is on) administration be opposed to see the flag as a symbol for the language?"

So I will be very much appreciative for any comments from Russian users.

French translation updated!

Only minor changes, where some words had not been translated ( and/or ).  Also, minor bug fixes ( \\ instead of \ ).
Name of the original translator has not been changed, only the date.

Thanks for the contributions, they're both available in the CVS (use web cvs (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/stable/lang/) to get them).

@sbourdon: your fixes are only partly correct - you mustn't re-introduce bugs that have been ironed out in previous versions already: the 3 backslashes in a row, followed by a single quote are needed for escaping stuff that will go into JavaScript alert boxes, please do not commit untested translations.

Hi2all!

I have updated the Russian language file. I've corrected grammatical, factological errors and misprints.  which were in translation. I didn't change an author just the date. This file is tested in a gallery with over 6000 photos and over 400000 views.

I think it's a good replacement for an existing file, but you can also add it as a second version.
All who use Russian can take a look @ http://www.karjamaa.ee/album to test it.

I hope this file will be useful :)

what russian language file - the one that came with the coppermine package or the one contributed by Makc666  only recently? You have to understand that we can't tell if a translation is good or bad, wether it contains errors or not. Best thing would be if you (the translators who worked on a particular lanuage, in your case russian) could share your thoughts and come up with a "common" version that has both.

Thanks for your contribution, but your version is not based on the most recent french language file from the cvs - there already has been a submission/fix on 2004-09-28 that addressed some spelling errors. Your version differs in 31 lines from the one that exists in the repository. The translators have submitted french.php and french-utf-8.php, which differed, leading to a version gap between the two files. As I can't tell which version is "more correct", I have to rely on the french speaking community to fix those issues.

If you're ready to take over this task, please check out the most recent version of the two files from the web cvs (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/stable/lang/) or use the copies I attached to my posting. Then use a diff viewer (winmerge (http://winmerge.sourceforge.net/) recommended) to find out about the differences between your version and the version in the cvs. Finally, provide one file (that has all fixes from all versions) with ISO-8859-1 encoding and let me convert it to utf-8.

Thank you

Joachim

You are right. The last cvs version had many excellent corrections. I merged both versions.

There is a little problem with encodings: french cannot be properly encoded in latin1 because of the letter "", which appears in three words in the translation. So I made a latin1 version (which, in my opinion, should be dropped in the future) and a utf-8 version, the only difference being that "" becomes "oe" in the latin1 version.

Cheers,

== Olivier

PS. I just used "diff"... ;)

Olivier,

thanks for your contribution. I understand that not all chars can be represented using iso-8859-i and that utf-8 is the way to go for the future, that's also what all recomendations say (e.g. http://www.w3.org/International/O-charset-lang.html ), but currently there are issues with many editors that don't "understand" proper utf-8 encoding - that's why we currently have two versions of all language files.
Your files will go into the cvs, thanks again.

Joachim

P.S. Usage of "diff" is of course the best solution, and it shows you're an expert with a good operating system ;)
Title: Re: [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.3.x; Encodings
Post by: chtito on November 21, 2004, 01:57:18 pm
I think that it would be a good idea to consider moving to a single encoding for coppermine (utf-8). Most people who use coppermine don't even know what an encoding is. They will just use whatever encoding is provided in coppermine. Currently, all the browser that i know of support utf-8 encoding (yes, even MSIE!). I therefore suggest the following steps:

The advantages of having a single encoding are innumerable. Only one single type of language file needs to be maintained. People can put symbols in their comments (like ★ or ♥). They are not stuck with one single language. Etc. etc. Shortcommings? I can't see any. But your reactions are welcome.

cheers,

== Olivier

I can see one: bad editors for M$ users - notepad.exe is not very usefull for handling utf-8 encoded files (although it basically can handle it). Would make creation of translations hard for non-experts.

Joachim

P.S. I just noticed there's the usual line-break issue with your language file contributions, could you please save them with br and lf, so they work both in Lunix and Windows world? Thanks
Title: Re: [Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.3.x
Post by: chtito on November 22, 2004, 10:35:03 am
Yes but who needs to edit files encoded in ut-8? Everything is handled by the code. The translators can translate from english to their language in any encoding they want, and then we (at least I can do that) convert their file to utf-8.

For the user of coppermine it makes no difference what encoding is used. As i said, most users don't even know what encoding means. It is therefore unnecessary for them to choose an encoding and also a language file with a weird extension (utf-8 or not). They should just choose the language, and we take care of the rest.

The utf-8 support of coppermine is wonderful, but it is not advertised enough.

So, what about making utf-8 the default encoding for the new installs of coppermine?

cheers,

== Olivier

Things are done : verry little is done yet trying to configure english-utf-8.php(UTF8 is not the most eficient here...windows-1257 is the best). Somehow php doesn't like all my translations, so maybe there are more ideas what i have to start with?

I also like to make some  thigs that it would be very nice to see in next version, but ofcourse, this is in next topic :-]

Lithuania, one of the Baltic states.

You should base your translation on the english.php, not the utf-8 version.  Please read the translation.htm in the docs folder of your downloaded copy.  You should get all the help there.

We do not contact by email, it is all done on the site, even though the site is having troubles at the moment, due to sourceforge servers, nothing we can do about that.  And even if we wanted to, we couldn't.  You have not told us your address.

Olivier,

could you post a bug report on the broken utf-8 files on the bugs board and assign fixing the issues with those files to yourself? As soon as I get home I'll grant you cvs write access, so you can start modifying them. In fact I'd love to have a dev team member who's in charge of translation/language file issues (some sort of "head translator"), please give me your thoughts on this (you might want to volunteer for this *hint* *wink*). ;D

Thanks for your contribution - I created a flag for Basque (hope it's politically correct) and put the file both in the demo and download section (see first posting of this thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=4623.0)). To add it to the flag selector of your site, you need to edit include/functions.inc.php, find
Code: [Select]
$lang_language_data['arabic'] = array('Arabic','العربية','sa');and add (in a new line) after it
Code: [Select]
$lang_language_data['basque'] = array('Basque','Euskera','baq');

About the basque translation:
@Gaugau: there is a BOM in the utf-8... This is likely to pose many problems to the users. I'll fix this as soon as i can, but i suggest that you change your editor.
@kurtsik: the dates are not properly localised (the %p is used only in certain English speaking countries)

Apart from that, great to have one more language!

@Gaugau: Unfortunately i can't recommend any editor on windows, nor linux, but there must exist some. However if you just want to remove the BOM, you can open the file in latin1, remove the first three characters, and save in latin1. Otherwise i can take care of the language files, even though it entails some delay since i don't check this thread every day ;).

Starting a cpg1.4 translation doesn't make sense at this stage of development yet - we haven't agreed on a feature freeze. Once there is a feature freeze, we will inform the translators and post publicly, in a thread similar to this one. Please note that this thread is dedicated to cpg1.3.x translations. You will find out more about cpg1.4 if you go to the cpg1.4 bugs/testing board (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?board=29.0) and read the sticky thread Important (must read!): "cpg1.4 testing/bugs board" rules and regs (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=7947.0).

Please zip the translation and attach it to your next posting here (using the "Additional options" link at the bottom of the page when composing a message).

Thanks

Very good work - providing the flag is a very good idea as well. Don't worry about the utf-8 version, we'll take care of this and create it accordingly. There are some minor errors though: in lines that have the comment //js-alert next to them, you have to be particularly mindfull of the escape strings: those lines will end up in JavaScript Message boxes, so you have to escape single quotes not only once (like this "Peter\'s pics"), but actually three times (like this "Peter\\\'s pics"). Anyway, I went through your translation and modified it accordingly (see attachment). I'll add it to the download section, cvs and demo asap.
Thanks for your contribution.

k, now I see. I'm sorry, I thought I had disabled the option in my editor to replace the chars with html equivalents - obviously I haven't. I just committed a fresh copy of welsh.php to the stable branch.
Here's what I did (and a hint to all future translators): all strings in the language file that will later end up in the output as JavaScript alerts are being tagged with js-alert in the language file - they need to be treated differently than the rest of the translation when it comes to the use of single quotes: instead of only one backslash ("\") that is used to escape the single quote (e.g.
Quote
'access_denied' => 'You don\'t have permission to access this page.',
), you have to insert thre backslashes ("\\\") before each single quote, because one of them is used to escape the php single quote, one of them is needed to remain in the code to escape it in the JavaScript output once again, and the third is needed to escape the second one. As an example:
Quote
'confirm_delete' => 'Wyt t\'n siwr dy fod eisiau DILEU y categori hwn', //js-alert
in the original file welsh.php that is contained in Owen's contribution has to become
Quote
'confirm_delete' => 'Wyt ti\\\'n siwr dy fod eisiau DILEU y categori hwn', //js-alert
. Not doing this will result in JavaScript errors (only visible in IE by default) and of course the JavaScript alerts will not fire up. This used to have a big impact in the past, for example in the french language file, where some translator didn't escape the single quotes in the albmgr.php section of the language file, so users of the french language file were unable to create albums.

We always put the day before the month.

We can use either the 12 hour clock, or the 24, but when using the 12 hour clock we use single figures without a leading 0, i.e., 7.30am/7.30pm, not 07.30am/07.30pm. so when using the 24 we do not need or use the am/pm, just 07.30/19.30.

I can't speak for the Welsh language, but my mother-in-law, who is 100% Welsh (but cannot speak the language) uses the same date format as the rest of us brits.

I'm cool with having a english_us, with an american flag.. Since the main version of english is a brit flag right now anyway, it might as well stay the international version.

I will say that using the english file as is, hasn't bothered me one iota. We're used to them Brits mispelling our words  ;D

For the info of non dev team readers, this is now being discussed on the dev board, and may be introduced in 1.4.

@ Donnoman,
I think a US version would be good, so we can add all the little pics so you yanks can see what we mean when big words are used they don't understand.  And they can keep the am/pm on the 24 hour clock, so they realise that anything after 12.00 is in the afternoon.
 :P ;D ;)

There has been a similar discussion on this a while ago (favorites vs. favourites etc.), having both an english_gb and english_us version would be fine imo, but we would still have to agree on an english version we (the dev team) are developing with in the first place. I'll keep on committing typos and misspellings either way ;) (yeah, damn "Krauts" ;D).

@Owen: Please consider translating the dates as well!! Otherwise wlsh users will complain and ask why the dates are displayed in English... I re-requote myself:
%I and %p are rarely used except in the US and a few other English speaking countries. That may be a good tip for the other translators as well. Please translate all the date formats!

Have a look at http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.strftime.php to understand how the date formats work.

Sorry maybe I'm missing something here? The dates have been translated

If you visit http://www.dyffrynaeron.com/llyfrlluniau/ which uses the welsh.php language file you will see that under the first album it says: "15 ffeil, anfonwyd yr un diwethaf - Tach 19, 2004" which translates as "15 files, last one sent on - Nov 19, 2004". This is the date format I have always used in both Welsh and English. Is this what you mean in your posting?

Sorry if I'm missing the point and being a bit slow on the uptake here!! ???

Owen, it is the format, not the actual translation chtito means.

You have used the american format, month/day/year rather than the usual brit and european format day/month/year.

it is done in this section of code;

Code: [Select]
// The various date formats
// See http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.strftime.php to define the variable below
$album_date_fmt =    '%B %d, %Y';
$lastcom_date_fmt =  '%m/%d/%y at %H:%M';
$lastup_date_fmt = '%B %d, %Y';
$register_date_fmt = '%B %d, %Y';
$lasthit_date_fmt = '%B %d, %Y at %I:%M %p';
$comment_date_fmt =  '%B %d, %Y at %I:%M %p';
$log_date_fmt = '%B %d, %Y at %I:%M %p'; //cpg 1.4.0

For my uk_english I am using this;

Quote
// The various date formats
// See http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.strftime.php to define the variable below
$album_date_fmt =    '%e.%B %Y';
$lastcom_date_fmt =  '%e.%m.%y um %H:%M';
$lastup_date_fmt = '%e %B %Y';
$register_date_fmt = '%e %B %Y';
$lasthit_date_fmt = '%e %B %Y um %H:%M';
$comment_date_fmt =  '%e %B %Y um %H:%M';

@casper

Yes I see. I agree that it needs changing. I have no access to the file which has already been uploaded. Should I change, rezip and resubmit, or is it easier for one of the administrators to change, rezip etc?

I just found Chtito's contribution confusing! ("@Owen: Please consider translating the dates as well!!")

Please make sure you have the most recent version of the file - get it from web cvs: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/stable/lang/ - if you decide to contribute a fix, please add an explanation what you fixed (and possibly why), as no dev team member actually speaks russian, so we would like to understand if a fix was posted for functionality, grammar, spelling or style reasons.

I see two mentionings of the dutch translation by Damysterious and Ron.
Don't see either of them posting a update. What's the word on the dutch translation file ?
Is it still valid ?

@bmossavari: Thanks for your contrib. I have a few questions though (please excuse my ignorance): is it politically correct to name the file "persian" or "iranian"? You chose "FA" as country code, which is definitely not correct (such a country TLD doesn't exist, see http://www.iana.org/cctld/cctld-whois.htm), I suggest "IR" for Iran.

@chtito: could you create a non-utf language file (ISIR-3342 or MacFarsi?) and then add the whole enchilada to the cvs (stable and devel)? Thanks

Joachim

Lithuania, one of the Baltic states.

You should base your translation on the english.php, not the utf-8 version.  Please read the translation.htm in the docs folder of your downloaded copy.  You should get all the help there.

We do not contact by email, it is all done on the site, even though the site is having troubles at the moment, due to sourceforge servers, nothing we can do about that.  And even if we wanted to, we couldn't.  You have not told us your address.

Hello. My all website is Encoding > Baltic (Windows), but when I open Gallery it changes to Encoding > Western European (ISO).
What should I do. How to keep it with Encoding > Baltic (Windows)?

you're looking for support, so you shouldn't have replied to a thread that clearly is in the "no-support" board "General discussion". This thread deals with contributions of language files. Please do not reply here, but start a new thread on the support boad that corresponds to your coppermine version. Post a link there to your site and some details on your client OS and browser.

Korean is one of the languages we do not have. That would be great if you would translate into Korean. If you are going to do it for your own site for 1.3x, that would be cool. If not, you can save your time/effort for the next version 1.4.

Thank you for the offer and nice compliment. :)

Well, I've had a friend translate Korean (most of it)
But it isn't displaying Korean.

After setting charset to: euc-kr, I'm getting alot of strange characters.
I assumed you only had to change the korean and it would work, any specific things to change?

I'm going to search the FAQ to find out what UTF is used for.

you'll have to make sure that your browser can display korean (it may need an additional download). You can send me the language file anyway, I can take a look into it if you want. A good place to start learning about utf-8 and other encoding issues is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utf-8
Another good resource for converting encodings is http://www.iconv.com/iconv.htm

gaugau, I handed a friend english 3.3 and asked her to translate.

i told her when she was halfway to let me know so i can test it before she goes any further.
she skipped around a bit, which is OK. but the entire file isn't finished.

Let me know what I should do next.

The line
Code: [Select]
$lang_charset = 'iso-8859-1';needs to be
Code: [Select]
$lang_charset = 'euc-kr';or
Code: [Select]
$lang_charset = 'utf-8';depending on the encoding you use (in your case "utf-8"). If you choose to use the file in utf-8, you'll have to make sure that you have enabled unicode (utf-8) in coppermine's config as well (and all your language files have to be in unicode then). A good tool for dealing with asian encodings and fonts is Uni2Me (http://alf-li.pcdiscuss.com/c_uni2me.html) (don't worry about the page being in chinese - the app is available in English, just follow the download link).

It's a pity that you started translating the outdated version cpg1.3.x - there won't be any new releases of the cpg1.3.x, and support for that version is running out. We'd appreciate a lithuanian translation for cpg1.4.x. Please read the translator's guide first that comes with the docs.
