Title: Javascript problem in images' fullsize-view
Post by: petitprince on January 18, 2005, 10:24:44 am
Hi everybody,

first of alll thank you very much for Coppermine! I've installed it on a current XAMPP package (Win32) and I am extremely pleased with the gallery. :-)

There's one last problem: After having configured my gallery apparently correctly (no other problems as far as I can see), I cannot watch an image in its fullsize-view. What I mean by that is the 'pop-up window' mode that you will see when you click on an image that is large enough. Both Internet Explorer and Firefox are reporting "javascript:;" in their status bars, but do not open a new window. The strange thing: Only some of my gallery themes (= the standard CPG 1.3.2 package + the subSilver theme) are affected by this.

These themes do work without problems:

Fruity
Handwired
lgames
Rainy day

These themes are affected by the JavaScript error:

Classic
Eyeball
Mac os x
Project vii
Subsilver
Water drop

I have already read the documentation and searched the forum, of course:

1. Affected themes are not missing the '<script type="text/javascript" src="scripts.js"></script>'-line in their template.html files.
2. The scripts.js file is correctly located inside the CPG directory.
3. The site is authorized to open a new window in the Firefox and IE pop-up blocker settings.

If anyone would like to have a look on my gallery, please surf to

data removed since the problem was finally solved

I have enabled the debug mode for everyone in case it is somehow related to the problem (which I do not really believe), PHP notices are switched off as it seems to have been often requested here. I have uploaded one image that is large enough for fullsize-view, so you can view it and change between an affected and a non-affected theme to watch the difference. I am able to understand German, French, Italian and Spanish as well, in case you want to answer in a language other than English.

Thank you very much in advance for any possible help!

I visited your gallery but i was not able to replicate your problem. I checked it using every theme and all the time pop up with full size image was coming fine.

Please check it from some other computer.

This hint brought the solution, thank you so much for your reply, Abbas Ali!  :) After trying to figure out why full-size view was working on another machine, but only with some themes on my own computer, I finally had the idea to deactivate Norton Internet Security 2004 that is installed on my own machine - and that was the reason! - Strange, this would normally have been one of the first steps for me to diagnose the problem, but since a few Coppermine themes were working as expected, I did not have the suspicion that the problem was somehow firewall-related ...

Well, to cut a long story short: Thank you very much for your great support, I apologize since the problem was not Coppermine-related at all. Finally I hope that I have at least contributed to the 'knowledge base' by writing this message, who knows, maybe someone else has the same problem in the future and will find it. :-)

Thanks once again,

petitprince

Also I would like to say that manner in which you posted in this thread is a classic example for everyone, who needs support, to follow.

You provided all the information, searched the forum and checked your scripts and paths before posting. I really liked the way you wrote in this thread.

Oh, thank you very much! :) I was just writing down the information I would have requested myself in case I had been the person to answer this question.

Well, from time to time I have given support to others on other software projects during my free time, and I know from my own experience that my will to answer questions was considerably higher when I was under the impression that the asking person had done everything to make my task easier. :-) It is true, most problems have already been solved by someone else at least once, and if you search a huge forum like this one here attentively, the answer is most probably already somewhere in there. At least that is my experience, in about 70 to 80 percent of the cases I get the solution without asking right from the forum database, simply by finding the particular post that has already once described my problem.

Kind regards from Berlin/Germany to India (? - if I read my Apache logs correcty :) ),

So short of disabling Norton every time I go to a Coppermine site, is there a work around for this in Coppermine? Surely if some themes work and others don't there's something that's tripping up on Norton?

Or failing a work around in Coppermine, is there a generic rule that can be used in Norton that will work on any Coppermine site (as otherwise I'd have to put exclusions in for every site).

It's not the referrer blocking though as I have referrer info enabled for "same site" in NIS 2005 (an option not available in NIS 2004 I think).

I just tried disabling the pop-up blocking (now under the AntiSpam options in NIS 2005), and that's fixed it. Better than disabling NIS entirely, though not perfect, but as Firefox and now IE under XP SP2 have pop-up blockers it's less important to use it in NIS.

I was excited to see my problem already posted here, but this solution does not seem to help my situation. I, too, can get the javascript popup for full-size images to work in one themes created by me, but not in another theme I just made. Even from another computer here at my house.

I tried to linked ".htaccess" trick (though I am not very knowledgeable in that area) and it did not work for me. I am not running any firewall software except SP2 and I have allowed popups for my site in Mozilla. I would love some help. Here is a link to the gallery (currently offiline while a site redesign is underway so the index is renamed):

Thanks.

I saw the source of your page and it seems that
Code: [Select]
<script type="text/javascript" src="scripts.js"></script>
is missing form template.html file of the theme you selected.

Insert above code in template.html of the theme.
