Title: New Theme: Kubrick
Post by: pnear on January 10, 2005, 04:37:47 am
If you're a fan of hacked together code, then this is the theme for you!  My first attempt at a Coppermine theme, and I must admit I had some difficulty porting a CSS-only theme (Kubrick for Wordpress) into the massively table-based structure of Coppermine.

If you're CSS-savvy, I'd appreciate your feedback and modifications.

Ported from:  http://www.binarybonsai.com/kubrick
Demo/dev version here:  http://www.thenears.com/coppermine/index.php?theme=kubrick
Based on the hardwired coppermine theme

Nice Job! I use a hacked version of Kubrick for my Wordpress site. I may be able to apply my changes to yours. I'll have a look.

Looks nice.  You might want to add a link that takes you back to index.php.  When I navigated to 1999 and earlier, the only way to return to the main index was to hit the back button.  Themes normally use the logo as a link back to index.php.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll link the gallery title in the next version.

Almost all Wordpress themes can be adapted for coppermine by just changing the CSS in Reynolds or 2bornot2b themes

Sigh....  that would've saved about a day's worth of effort I imagine.  Next time I'm bored I'll take a look at those and see if it's worthwhile to change the base.  Not happy with some of the hacks in there right now that were necessary to make it work.  It's somewhat ugly under the covers.

Thanks for the contribution - very nice theme.

Demo (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/index.php?theme=kubrick) - Download (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.3.x_theme_kubrick.zip?download)

P.S. The frontpage folders within your zip file are not needed, I removed them from the package

Hah, so they snuck in there did they?

Yet another reason I'm redoing my entire website with Wordpress - pesky frontpage extensions insert themselves everywhere even when they're not invited!!

Thanks for packaging, I' should have a new versio for you in about a week with all yet-to-be discovered issues corrected.

WOW.  This is very cool.  I have just recently set up wordpress using a nightly build from a couple of days ago which uses kubrick as the default theme.  I also have gallery running on my site, but now that I look at this....  I would love to take a stab at coppermine in exactly this way.  I think it would be great to fully integrate it with my blog.  I downloaded your archive but there is no readme and I am a complete newb when it comes to hacking php, etc.  Could some of you steer me in the right direction?  Keep in mind that I don't even have coppermine at all right now.  My host only gave me one mysql db so I would have to pay for another one.  Want to make sure I can do this before paying for another one.  Thanks a lot and I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Installing the theme is easy once coppermine is set up - just drop the files in the zip into your "themes" directory.

Lots of help avaiilable on the boards here and in the documentation on setting things up.  You should be able to point coppermine to your existing database, it really only needs to be able to create its own tables in that db (which are prefixed cpg_ so they shouldn't conflict with the other tables).

Excellent stuff. I've just installed WordPress and came across the Kubrick theme and love it. Thought I'd look for any Coppermine integration with WordPress, and here's a Kubrick theme!!

 ;D

Quick question though...

How can I make the page wider? My intermediate images default to 800 pixels wide at most and it messes up the page a bit.

Can't happen, the kubrick theme is set at 760 pixels in width, with margins bringing that inwards quite a bit.  I'd recommend that you change the intermediate picture table size to 450.  If you need full screen-width you might want to look at another theme.  Reynolds might fit weill if you tweak the colours a bit.

New version available (attached), a few updates including a hyperlinked title.  This is now officially an english-focused theme, language translations might look wierd in a few spots where I wasn't able to call the appropriate text replacement tags.

That's okay, they work okay resized to 600 pixels wide which will do. I tend to like bigger intermediates as it brings out more detail and not everyone clicks on the image for the full size, plus I post them on other forums and they tend to use bigger pics (which are 1504 wide, and that's half the size of the actual photo from the camera! :D). What I really need to do is make a script that will create a second resized set of pics suitable for posting elsewhere.

I've got a problem with this theme. Clicking on the intermediate photo doesn't bring up the full size image any more.

At least I assume it's the theme as it worked before I changed to it. That said I've had problems before with many Coppermine sites where sometimes the full size link doesn't work for no good reason.

Edit: Could be this problem related to Norton Internet Security: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=13830.0

If you're talking about the blue color behind "The Nears", it can't be changed via CSS.  It's a JPEG, so you'll have to make your own to match the size and shape.

You could always do this trick (http://kalsey.com/2003/07/rounded_corners_in_css/), or this trick (http://www.redmelon.net/tstme/4corners/).  That would allow you to resize the shape to whatever you want, and not be stuck with one huge block.

Is there any way (I imagine there is) to change the color of the text in the gallery name and the description text right below it?  I'm having a terrible time with this code.  To give a better description, it's the white text on the blue gradient at the top of the page of coppermine running the kubrick theme.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In the template.html file in the folder of your theme. Look for the following tokens:
{GAL_DESCRIPTION} {GAL_NAME}

You can format them just like any other text, but just keep the token intact with the brackets.

ARGHHHHHH......i just installed coppermine after giving up on customizing "gallery" to go with my b2evo blog which has a customized kubrick template.
i got pretty excited when i saw this thread and the demo kubrick cpg site -
BUT
my excitement was shortlived after i installed the skin and uploaded my own kubrick images only to find that the actual pics/thumbnails etc... still show the default white background.

the beauty of the kubrick template is that u can completely alter the appearance of ur site/s by the editing of 4-5 images.
imo, it defeats the purpose if the kubrickbg &/or kubrickbgwide don't get used for the apperance of the actual image and thumbnail backgrounds.....

please tell me i'm missing something or that theres an easy way to make my background images appear the way their supposed to in this template ie...as a backdrop for ALL the content.

tia.

ok - i'll answer myself, getting used to it by now - lol.
for anyone else who's using this theme and doesnt leave the bg images white u can change the background color/s to transparent in the css and it will allow ur bg image to be visible across the board.
works in ie6 and firefox at least - i'm assuming it works in most other browsers too.

I would like to add that the "powered by coppermine" is following the alignment of the gallery (left).

I have fixed by editing the style.css to align center of the theme, below is the easy fix:

Change
Code: [Select]
.footer {
        font-size: 9px;
        color: #000000;
}

to

Code: [Select]
.footer {
        font-size: 9px;
        color: #000000;
        padding-left: 185px;
}

I fully admit that this code is not nearly as elegant as Kubrick.  I'll modify the theme for 1.4 once it's released and make more liberal use of XHTML and CSS.  For now, it's a kludge of tables and css that simply imitates the look and feel of Kubrick and not the backend elegance.

Hello,

Excellent theme! Can you tell me how to increase the width of the table for album description?
(appears after uploading a file, when you choose which album to put it in)

Thanks in advance.

The width of a dropdown box is determined by the largest entry it contains - if you choose album names with more characters in it, the dropdown field will get wider as well. This is a generic html issue (how the html is being rendered in your browser), not theme-specific - see http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_select.asp

there has been a report about a possible bug in the kubrick theme (cosmetical only, no security threat) that should be looked into and fixed permanently, refer to http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=15573.msg73352#msg73352
It's about the file info section of displayimage that appears not to take into account the default visibility preferences set in coppermine's config. A fix has been posted on the thread as well.

I have just updated the kubrick theme in the download section to fix the bug that was reported (and remove the frontpage junk folders from it). Additionally, I have created a readme file that contains a link both to this thread and the original theme.
Might take a bit to replicate on all mirors. Download updated kubrick theme (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.3.x_theme_kubrick.zip?download)

ok first
i got everything installed very well and was very impressed with myelf seeing that this was like my 3rd time of trying to install coppermine.

heres my questions...

1. How do i make a Home link (in menu) or make the top header pic (blue box) a LINK that will link back to my homepage witch is just plain HTML/..??

2. On the Thumbnail Page when you click the picture and it goes to the (BIG sized pic page) where you can leave comments and rate it, and what not.. IS there a way to change the order so the picture is on top and the (slideshow/ecard/email picture/ etc.) is on bottom and then make the (timeline/film strip) under the main Picture..

3. Does anyone know a html code that i can insert in my Main index page. that will grab like one the most recient picture and display it on my Main index page.. as a thumbnail like 75x75 in size??

i know theese are problably amature questions. and i dont know alot about HTML CODE or php..
thanks for your time!!!

anything will help.

Also i use Dreamweaver MX.. to edit code , design etc...

1) search the board, its been asked and answered several times.

2) Theres nothing built in like the "content of the main page" for the displayimage.php page.

3) Search the mod board for CoppermineFetch

Good Luck.

Is this theme going to be "re-done" and tidied up ? Really nice theme, love it and all, but there are a few flaws. The category fonts are too big in IE, Firefox is fine. Its not all category names, just some. It's weird. Also, the fact that it is only 800 * 600 is a little hampering, so the filmstrip now only shows 4 pics. I would love if I could get the filmstrip to be extended one more. Also, in the memberlist from Admin, the list looks very jumbled together. It looks very untidy. All In all, I think the entire theme should be wider. Really looking forward to seeing work done on this theme. Really love it.
Title: Re: New Theme: Kubrick
Post by: Joachim Müller on April 20, 2005, 06:38:10 pm
All the settings you request are not being done within a theme, but in coppermine's config. Every theme with reduced width will break if you have content that is wider than expected. In coppermine's config, change the width of your intermediate pics and your thumbnails (both width and number of items). The theme itself might need a little touch-up, but your request itself is a bit "invalid", as not directly theme-related.
You have to take into account as well, that this theme is a user-contribution, not a theme that comes with the coppermine package. This means: if the theme author (or anyone else who is ready to spend some time working for the community) feels like modifying the theme to do what you request (width!), it will be changed. If he doesn't feel like it, you will have to modify the theme by yourself.

The problems seem small and easy enough to fix, however you must understand there are 3 images used for the template. Each image has a static size. You would need you make 3 new images set to the width your looking for. The next problem is with larger images, and a screen resolution of 800x600 you will get bottom scrolling. I think this looks much worst.

The text sizes can be editied via the style.css, you will need to look at the theme.php to understand the "class" tags the designer uses. Many are his own, so not coppermine standard.

I hope this helps, I can take a look over the weekend. I'm tied up working on some themes for 1.4. ;D

Title: HELP!

Uh-oh. I am not sure if I did something weird or if it is something that the theme did. The last change I applied was the coppermine upgrade from 1.3.0 - 1.3.3 and ever since then there are certain users, when I click on their name, their list of albums does not appear. The only thing that show is the last uploaded picture, a random picture, or in some cases the last commented picture. HELP!

I am running the theme kubrick. Before when I just installed kubrick, nothing like this happened.

hey I love this theme. I've been waiting for something like this to come along as I have my entire website based on the kubrick theme for wordpress and I wanted to integrate coppermine into that. I installed the theme and I have a problem getting it to fit properly... when you look at an image it stretches the tables and such and it looks nasty. How do I fix this? of course its in my configuration I'm presuming but I've changed the following to no avail.

 Width of the main table  = 300
 Width of the table for file display = 300

what do I have to change to fix this?

Hello,

I like this theme verry much but I have one little problem. Every page that is made by myself does not fit into the Kubrick theme. Lets see what I mean:

Here you find one page that works on the Giallo theme:
http://fotoalbum.lufjoe.nl/index.php?theme=Giallo

And here you find the same page into the Kubrick theme:
http://fotoalbum.lufjoe.nl/index.php?theme=Kubrick

You see that the page does not fit into the Kubrick theme but when you open the photo album or any other page from CPG its good.

What can be the problem? Do I have to modify the Kubrick theme or what.

Ciao

your content is to wide, that's all. Kubrick only looks good if you have a limited (fixed) width for your content. It's a drawback of the Kubrick theme (that looks nice but is far from perfect). As you have custom (i.e. non-coppermine) content on your page it's hard to tell what exactly makes it break. For the amount of content you have I recommend keeping your current theme "giallo" or a theme that works with full-width content.

I managed to screw up this theme too... I thought it was because I used Caspers Paypal hack but maybe it is due to my image size.  I am getting a screen that looks like this:

Hello, thank you for the theme !

I've been working on integrating Coppermine in Wordpress. I'm using a modified Kubrick theme for Wordpress, and now I have a modified Kubrick theme for Coppermine too :) They both still have some quircks however, but nothing too bad I believe.

I thought you might be interested in my coppermine plugin (http://mvdkwast.free.fr/wordpress/?page_id=36) for Wordpress, that makes it possible to insert pictures from Coppermine into Wordpress posts with a single click and to share users and sessions between both systems. I had to make some small changes to the Coppermine sources to achieve this though. (using MD5 hashed passwords instead of plain text)

You can find an online demonstration here (http://mvdkwast.free.fr/demo/wordpress). Register freely on this page (http://mvdkwast.free.fr) (you will not have to wait for a confirmation mail), and then upload some pictures and write a post if you want to check it out.

Greetings,

Please start a fresh thread about your plugin on the support board and a moderator will move it to the mods board, so your mod will have a more prominent place to be found more easily. Here (as a reply to a theme thread), it will go unnoticed.

This will probably come as no surprise, but I will no longer be maintaining the Kubrick theme.  Looks like the community and GauGau have picked up the maintenance anyways.  I was working on a 1.4 version of the theme but have since abandoned that effort due to time constraints.  Ahh, to be a dad.  Lots of fun but you loose time to do some of your hobbies.  Family first.

Everything that you need to upgrade the theme to a newer version should exist in the distribution package.

hi pete !

Thanks for the theme anyway  :D I know what you mean, time constraints... And I'm not even a dad. I changed my WordPress Kubrick theme a while ago, but I just can't seem to find the time to update my matching Coppermine theme (that is based on yours).

Hello!
First of all I want to thank you for this theme.
There's just one slight problem, which appears when viewing this site: http://www-users.rwth-aachen.de/hendrik.friedel/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=9 (displayimage.php) with Firefox. (Hard for me to describe. Something seems to be to wide)
Strangely everything is Ok, after clicking on details, which just calls javascript:;

BTW: It happens with the coppermine online demo aswell: http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg13x/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=0

Any Ideas?

Regards,

Hendrik

Not sure if this is the place to ask, but there seems to be an html validation problem with the Coppermine Kubrick theme as found in this thread. This theme does not correctly set the values for {lang_dir} and {charset}. Thus all pages will have the following code:

<html dir="{lang_dir}">
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset={charset}" />

Instead of:
<html dir="ltr">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
for example
(2bornot2b gets it right).

I don't know much about php and css. Is this easy to fix other than just manually modifying the template.html file (which will make it difficult to change charset)?

Placeholder tags in template.html should be in upper case.

Thanks. Changing to uppercase worked.

Now to fix all the other validation errors!

Sorry. I've made numerous other changes to template.html and I'd rather not post it.

All I did to fix this problem was make these changes in template.html
<html dir="{lang_dir}">  to  <html dir="{LANG_DIR}">
and
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset={charset}" /> to <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset={CHARSET}" />

Hi, great theme - well done. This kind of clean design is what CSS is good for.

I installed the theme and immediately wanted a link to the 'Home' from the menu file so after seeing others have wanted this too I thought I would post my code. Very simple to those that are familiar with CPG themes but an easy fix for those that aren't.

1. How do i make a Home link (in menu) or make the top header pic (blue box) a LINK that will link back to my homepage witch is just plain HTML/..??

Open up theme.php in a text editor and search for
Code: [Select]
<!-- BEGIN my_gallery -->. Above this line add in the following lines

Code: [Select]
<!-- BEGIN home -->
                                        <li>
                                                <a href="/index.php" title="Home">Home</a>
                                        </li>
<!-- END home -->

so that your code looks like this

Code: [Select]
$template_main_menu1 = <<<EOT
                        <li>
                                <h2>Main Menu</h2>
                                <ul>
<!-- BEGIN home -->
                                        <li>
                                                <a href="/index.php" title="Home">Home</a>
                                        </li>
<!-- END home -->
<!-- BEGIN my_gallery -->
                                        <li>
                                                <a href="{MY_GAL_TGT}" title="{MY_GAL_TITLE}">{MY_GAL_LNK}</a>
                                        </li>
<!-- END my_gallery -->

The real Kubrick theme for wordpress, automatically resize your posted images in wordpress if it is bigger than the main table. can someone point me to that direction so we can code the kurbick theme in cpg the same thing?
Though wordpress does do that it's really ugly as it's just a browser resize.

I'm afraid with the Kubrick theme, either in WP or Coppermine, you've got to have your images resized properly to fit.

It's the one drawback with the theme. It's really cool, but it's just too thin for photo use. Does anyone know of some themes derived from Kubrick that are wider (and available for both WP and Coppermine)?

OutKa5t, thank you for that code, i was just working on that :)

I have a modified by me version of Kubrick on my blog, with a custom code that put a nice menu in the header like this :

http://www.prim3r.nextdesigns.net/iBlog/

i was trying to copy the code of that "navigation on header" , on coppermine, but since coppermine dont have a header.php , and i dont fully undestand php to start messing with it...i just used your way :)

if someone that want to had that menu on the coppermine header, i would apreciate it :)

For now...OutKa5t way will do :D

Thanks again.

Hi
I want to change places with "Category" and "Last additions" so that "Last additions" is on the top of the page.
What to do?  ???

Thanks!

not related to theming - it's the same method for all themes. RTFM: http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg13x/docs/index.htm#changing

Hi,
there's two things, I want to change with the Kubrick Theme:
1) I'd like to have the Caption and Title of the Image, which is as a default below the actual Image, moved above the Image, and vice versa.
If I just switch the postions in theme.php, instead of the Title of the Image, I get {Title} displayed. (Same for caption). Equally the Link to the Slideshow doesn't work when it is placed below the Image.
2) I'd like to have a Link to the Slideshow of the current Gallery at the Navigation bar. But here also the Link doesen't work.

I couldn't find any further Documantation on writing Themes, so I couldn't figure out, what the Problem is.

Any Ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Hendrik

@joerod: stop misbehaving, you already posted on the cpg1.4.x support board, there's no use to post on the cpg1.3.x board. To give you some time to review your attitude, you're banned from posting for 3 days. Don't behave like a moron.

@joerod:
go to: http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/theme/index.html (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/theme/index.html)

and adopt the current theme to cpg1.4 and post it here, if you can't wait for someone else to do so.

Otherwise I can offer you upgrading it for you for -let's say 200€. ;-)

Greets,
Hendrik
