Title: I want no "users"
Post by: solohelp.com on October 19, 2004, 01:03:11 am
I would like to remove all links for anything that a user could do.  I want to use the script only as an easy way to upload and name images and for the search function.  I dont want users to login or even see the link. They wont be leaving comments or creating albums.   Normally I would just remove all the links, but since the admin area uses the same script as the users Im not sure what to remove?

thanks for the cool script.  This is the first time I've used it on a site that will get traffic.

Don't allow new user registrations, which I believe is the standard setting in a new install.  No user links will show up.  However, the admin login isn't a separate process, so the login link has to be available.  You could possibly make a hidden link somewhere on your page so it isn't obvious.

Hi, Solo!
I would think that this would be a simple matter of "commenting out" the relevant menu items in your "theme.php" (i.e. "register", "last comments" etc etc), then switch off the commenting/rating functions in the groups section for "annonymous" visitors.
Hope this helps!

Register doesn't show up if allow registrations is turned off in config, so you don't have to comment that out.

Thanks for the info.  I like the idea of hiding the login link.  Then turning the rest off should work.

thanks

Make sure you comment them out, do not delete them.

You can comment out all links you don't want.  If you need to log in, you will have to type the url direct (or make the login.php one of your bookmarks)

Also remember to set the group permissions, to dis-allow all actions for everyone except admin.

also instead of putting a "hidden link" you can just go to the login page before you comment the link out and save it as a boomark or just type it in every time you want to log in.

Or make the login link the same color as the background. Then, to find it, you select the general area and the text will show up.
