Title: How to upgrade to cpg1.4.9 without screwing up my current gallery
Post by: wwedivas on October 04, 2006, 08:21:08 am
I want to make sure that when upgrade I don't lose all my picture files and configuration settings. So how do I properly do this without any of my files and/or settings being lost?

If you do as suggested under upgrading documentation you'll not lose a bit ;)

ok this might seem like a really stupid question, but how would I propely make a backup of my database? As far backing up the include/config.inc.php files, anycontent.php file and "albums" directory.. I assume I just copy these files, and save them somewhere so I can upload them back?

Use a db tools (usualy you have one on your hosting control panle) like phpmyadmin and export your db to sql

Yes, download them to your local computer or move them to a safe place (if you have access to server)

I really don't understand how to do that as I really don't know much about operating MySQL type stuff. Is it really gonna kill me if I just stick with cpg 1.48?

It's mandatory to update. If you don't, you'll sooner or later fall victim to security issues that existed in previous versions (i.e. your gallery is going to be hacked).
Try the tool mysqlDumper (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=31423.msg145478#msg145478) - it's pretty easy to use. Another option would be asking your webhost for support or hiring someone to do the backup. Of course you could perform the update without backing up as well, which is just risky if you make a mistake during the upgrade process. If you don't make a mistake during upgrading and stick to the upgrade docs, everything should work just fine even without performing the backup beforehand.

Ok I found the phpMyAdmin area in my hosting panel. I took 2 screenshots of the options I have.

Is there any other options I should check off in this screenshot?

Do I have to save it as any specific type of file? Should I keep the same file name when saving it?

I have my gallery bridged and have no clue to what I used as password for the admin thingy when it gets "unbridged". How do I solve this?

Search the board for "lost admin password" or "recover password" then. In the future, make sure to remember important stuff like admin logins (write them down if you must).

If you already use cpg1.4.16, you're fine, as this version is more recent than cpg1.4.9 - you don't have to upgrade then. If you confused the version numbers and actually want to upgrade from cpg1.4.9 to cpg1.4.16, then just read the upgrading section of the docs and do as suggested there. If you have specific questions that are not covered in the docs, return here and post them (one question per thread) in a thread of your own instead of trying to hijack a thread.

Hey my whole coppermine gallery has been hacked with coding that puts harmful malware on computers. So I desperately need to update the software.. but I want to do this without all my pictures, settings, comments, and other date being deleted. I don't want to have to re-setup all the settings, remake all the albums & categories, and have to to re-upload thousands of pictures. So if anyone could help me out step by step, I would really appreciate it.

Follow the instructions in the manual and start your own thread if you have issues.

I have created a thread that contains detailed instructions: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,51927.0.html

The other user who hijacked this thread already was told that he/she needs to start his/her own thread. Why do you disrespect board rules and try to hijack someone else's thread? Thread got locked because of your misbehaviour.
