Title: Theme "Blix" for cpg1.4.8
Post by: danuvius on June 22, 2006, 05:22:15 pm
The theme "Blix" (that has originally been created by Sebastian Schmieg (http://www.kingcosmonaut.de/blix/) for WordPress (http://wordpress.org/)) has reached anew release (beta, but it's a start) for coppermine. The reason that is still beta is that it hasn't fully been tested yet. My first goal is to make sure that it looked as close to the wordpress theme as possible. But since coppermine as a way more different pages than a blog made in WordPress (http://wordpress.org/). Most of it is ported! It works with coppermine 1.4.8. Don't know if it works with previous versions. The Blix theme comes under the GNU GPL license with one small addition from the original designer, don't use the theme to host pornographic images.

Demo (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php?theme=blix) - Download (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.4.x_theme_blix_0.3.zip?download) (version: 0.3) - Download (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=32987.0;attach=4670) (version: 0.4)

Note on the Development (http://fotos.vd-sanden.nl/) site: this is the development site i use to test the changes to the theme. So additions to the theme will be tested on this site. So The Demo site might be slightly different than the one you downloaded!

Release notes 0.4:

If you find any bugs please let me know in this topic. You can send me screenshots to my e-mail (the one in my profile) if it's hard to explain what's wrong with the theme.

Cheers!
Daan

NOTE: Because of a small bug in coppermine the theme will function fully from coppermine 1.4.9. To lett it work on previous versions see http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=33030 for details to manually fix your current version.

Minor note: In template.html, there's a link to Coppermine that is incorrect (coppermine.org).

Hmm, in template.html on line 9 and 11 change Blix into blix ;) Will fix it in the new release! Thanx.

That fixed it.  I may be losing it, but I don't see a link anywhere for "logout".

**Edit:  I found it, if you hover over HOME it's there.  It's there because it ran out of space along with the rest of the links up top.

Also, there is no drop down to change the theme.

I think if you lose the film strip, the intermediate image will not cross over into the menu column.  Also maybe the forward/backward buttons and slideshow/thumbnail/file info buttons can be moved to the bottom of the image.  Maybe this will give a centered image without overlap.

Damn that's right I've disabled the faq and the register page! So I had space enough in the menu bar. Hmm will think on that in the weekend. Probably new release somewhere on monday.

Attaching the theme to this posting in case the link should go down (safety precaution). Anyway, please try the link in the initial posting first, as the package might get updated on the page danuvius refered to.

@danuvius: please report once you consider the theme to be stable and mature enough to go into the demo and downloads section. Thanks for your contribution! Excellent work so far. I suggest counting the versions up in the file name and attaching them to your initial posting - this will help future visitors of this thread.

New release of the theme available. Still not finished but getting closer! Still some issues to tackle but hey I'm human and don't heave all the time off the world to theme coppermine. Still need to find a way to display the ECard table and the Userlist table (they ar to big for this theme. Suggestions are welcome. Personally I was thinking of not displaying the menu on the right while on those pages. People have different ideas??

@GauGau
Attached the two release to the original post (will keep the last three versions attached).

There are several issues with version 0.2 of the theme (like missing tokens in template.html). I fixed the ones I was able to spot easily and created version 0.3 of the theme.
Demo (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php?theme=blix) - Download (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/coppermine/cpg1.4.x_theme_blix_0.3.zip?download)

Cool thanks for the work and effort! I was also working on a 0.3 version. On sunday (or monday), I will combine these two versions and release version 0.4. After that it will be silent for a few weeks. I'm leaving for my holiday (have to make pictures to fill my gallery :P) so don't worry I will finish this theme after my holiday!

Further notice of bugs:

Tested in IE and Firefox
----------------------
Seen in IE:
low display (aligned bottom) when logging in/out and switching from user mode/admin mode
forgot password page - low display, text box is aligned way right
register page - low display, text spills into sidebar
user management -  low display, text spill into sidebar
when there is an error creating a user, the error message spills to sidebar

Seen in Firefox:
login page text/text box needs align center (pretty much text boxs and login button)
forgot password page - text box is aligned way right
register page - text spill into sidebar
when there is an error creating a user, the error message spills to sidebar

I'm sure this can't be fixed due to the narrow theme this is, but intermediate images are a bit out of correct display size (intermediate image forced out of correct aspect).

Dunno if it helps, but the kubrick theme is a wp theme and a lot of the body overrunning into the sidebar doesn't exist.  Maybe kubrick can be used as a reference?

Thanks for the contiued work!

I just installed ver. 0.4.  The FAQ and logout links appear below the navigation row when you hover below HOME (*Edit - this is only when logged in as Admin, so no biggie).  I guess because the search bar is there.  Also, intermediate images (for me) are still off as far as aspect ratio.

Thanks

**Edit - your site has the "film strip" displayed in the film strip, are you going to include it?

I have installed version 0.4 of Blix.... pretty cool, I like it. I have made some changes to the color to match my WEB site colors and now, it looks great.. have a look: (http://www.fleursjoelmarcfrappier.ca/photos/index.php)

Two minors issues...
1) I can't get the film strip to appear
2) I can't get the number of files and pages at the bottom of the Thumbnails page. See here (http://www.fleursjoelmarcfrappier.ca/photos/thumbnails.php?album=1) I switched to the classic theme, and it works fine!

Nice job, keep going.

For a solution to this problem see the note in the opening post. It is due to a bug in coppermine. Will be fixed in the next Coppermine release. see the link in the quote for a solution!

I've looked at other who are using this theme and they don't have any image problems with the intermediate size like I do.  Although I don't have an issue with any other theme (the way the intermediate photos look), does anyone know why I do with blix?  btw, I resize all of my photos to 1024x768 before I upload..

I do not know the theme but I once looked into it a lil bit. There's one new function that html resizes intermediate images if you set its dimensions to big in config and the image size would destroy the site layout (cause of the menu on the right side). Then the intermediate image looks low quality.
Either remove that function -> intermediate view will look distorted
or check out the max image size, do the changes in config and recreate intermediate images in the admin  tools

Title: Blix modification - missing br tags?
Post by: So Shoot Me! on September 23, 2006, 01:28:05 am
I'm trying to modify the blix theme.

Apparently the theme has a couple of issues, one of which I've been trying to figure out for three days now.  (I'm not very PHP knowledgable, but I'm learning.  I have coded perl long ago and I'm seeing similarities.  Hope that's not misleading me.)

Anyway, I've set up a gallery at www.soshootme.com/gallery.  Under the Random Files and Last Additions, when the pic info prints out, it doesn't have the HTML code to separate each item onto it's own line.  That is, the name, stats, and description are running together on one line.  For the life of me, I can't locate the spot where this information is printing out so that I can add in some br tags.

Can anyone advise me on this?

Thanks in advance.
Title: Re: Theme "Blix" for cpg1.4.8
Post by: Paver on September 23, 2006, 03:54:28 am
@SoShootMe: I haven't followed the development of this theme or looked at it carefully, but I can answer your question.  The CSS classes "thumb_title" and "thumb_caption" are not present in the imported CSS files for this theme.  No <BR>s are used so that the presentation of the thumbnail title and caption is all done using style properties.  Looking at the classic theme, you'll see that these two classes use "display: block" to render the separate elements on separate lines.

So... add the following to bottom of the file themes/blix/style.css:
Code: [Select]
.thumb_title {
    display: block;
}

.thumb_caption {
    display: block;
}

If you want to style the title differently than the caption, you can add whatever you like.  For example, the classic theme styles "thumb_title" to be bold.

I'm sure all the classes Coppermine uses will eventually be included in this theme.   :)

Code: [Select]
.thumb_title {
    display: block;
}

.thumb_caption {
    display: block;

yes thats much better. I havent applied this to my theme, because i edited the files by hand

a thing i did correct:

see here http://www.ynow.hostweb.com.au/cpg/displayimage.php?album=random&cat=4&pos=-66 (http://youth-now.info/cpg/displayimage.php?album=random&cat=4&pos=-66)

I got the title and description how i want. This was done by modifying template_display_media in theme.php:

Code: [Select]
$template_display_media = <<<EOT
    <div align="center"><br /><br />{IMAGE}
    {ADMIN_MENU}
<!-- BEGIN img_desc -->
<!-- BEGIN title -->
    <br /><b>{TITLE}</b>
<!-- END title -->
<!-- BEGIN caption -->
    <br /><br />{CAPTION}
<!-- END caption -->
<!-- END img_desc -->
</div>
EOT;

around line 313 of theme.php in your blix folder, there you paste the above  code over the whole template_display_media block.

This isnt the nicest way of doing things, but at least it looks better now and when the theme gets updated by the author perhaps it can be removed
Title: Re: Theme "Blix" for cpg1.4.8
Post by: John on September 26, 2006, 07:47:26 pm
here, if you wanna just use my theme.php you can (but use at own risk, make a backup).

 it has a few other fixes in it other than the 1 i listed above, it might not be any good for you but it may be.

all ive done is hack in a few ways of making it display some of this theme a bit better,

for anyone who wants to make the filmstrip work, do this.... go into layout.css, and find

Code: [Select]
/* Content Image
--------------------------------------------------*/

the first 2 styles under this line, replace with this..... :

Code: [Select]
#content .filmstrip {
  width:440px;
  padding:10px 0 0 0;
  float:left;
}

#content .filmborder {
    background-image: url(images/tile.gif);
    background-repeat: repeat-x;
    width:455px;
}

the problem? it didnt like the ' around the image path, and you need to add at least 10px of padding to the top of the strip to make it display nice, was set to 0. Works in Firefox and ie7...dont know of any problems with other browsers

Hi,
I have slaved over this problem trying to find a solution.

It seems that my midsize images are pushed down when a description is added.
At least this is what I see happening, am not sure if the descriptions are what is causing it. The images without descriptions stay at the top as you can see in these two examples.
It happens in IE6 but not IE7 - I have not tested other browsers.

I am using the "Blix" template.

See the files ive attaced to this post they will show you the one where your picture is "pushed down" with description, and also from my blix theme, you will see mine are not pushed down in ie6. I can confirm for you that i tested your theme in netscape 6.2.3, opera 8.5, ie6 and ie7 .... ie 6 was the only one that does this problem, its probably a style error (or maybe your intermediate image is too big for ie6). I guess you have to hunt it down and either fix it or apply an ie6 specific conditional statement to it and make it do something else for ie6. sorry if im confusing thats the best i can explain it. I thought i'd look into this a bit for you as i too use blix theme

I found the problem, will correct this in the next version (will be in a month or so, busy with university). for people who want to fix it their selves in layout.css change
Code: [Select]
#content {
  float:left;
  width:455px;
  padding-top:32px;
}
into:
Code: [Select]

Hello :)

I've installed Blix on my site and it looks veeery nice! Beautiful template :) I've made some changes, but I can't cope with one thing:
I'd like the pictures (big ones, not thumbs) to be 600px width. I've spread the container (in css file) up to 790px, so there's space for pictures to be bigger. But I dont' know where I can adjust the max width of big pictures :( I've got very little knowledge of PHP, so if somebody could paste here the right piece of the code I'd be grateful.

My gallery is here: http://www.photohorses.eu (http://www.photohorses.eu)

I've disabled the option in coppermine to create "middle" pictures, because I upload pics that are 600px width and I want them to be shown in 100% scale. But blix reduces the width in horizonatl pics (in vertical there's no prblem) - you can see it on the page.

Please, help me! :)

@GauGau : this theme uses an image resize technique to adjust the intermediate image width  to theme width

@Naat : change the value of $max under theme.php to 600 , you can find on line #1141

It was made for cpg1.4.x. Won't work with any other version at all. I'd consider this theme "experimental", so your remark doesn't help: post your insight, helping us (the community) come to a version of the theme that works flawlessly.
