Title: Upgrading question
Post by: CGPhotos on September 22, 2006, 08:20:52 pm
ok. I have one domain name with version 1.3.  Upgrading was a nightmare!!  Resotred it back.  I have another domain I caould install the newer version on through fantastico.  Its only the 1.4.8.  Here my questions:

1.Can I install the 1.4.9 through fantastico without having to go through the upgrade process?
2.  When I get the new version installed on the new domain whats the easiest and fastest way to get the albums to the new coppermine?
3.  How will all this affect my users? ???

Don't use autoinstaller script !
you have two options:
- install new version (1.4.9) manualy and then reastore DB backup and files backup from old one
- first upgrade your old one to 1.4.9 (if you do as suggested under upgrading doc you will be just fine) and then move everyting to new domain

1.Can I install the 1.4.9 through fantastico without having to go through the upgrade process?
No ! Personally I didn't see any autoinstaller script that install CPG v 1.4.9

2.  When I get the new version installed on the new domain whats the easiest and fastest way to get the albums to the new coppermine?
reastore DB backup and reastore albums folder and include/config.inc.php and anycontent.php and any other core file that has modification

3.  How will all this affect my users? ???
No effect on users afaik

I installed on new domain then uploaded my "albums back-up" via ftp ipswicth.  Wen I go to the new gallery there is nothing there.  Did I forget to upload something?

CGPhotos: You need to upload the database aswell, then make sure include/config.inc.php points to the restored database.

webhigh: Please read the manual.

Export the database from the old server to a .sql file then import it into the new database. You can use phpmyadmin for this.

You meen that your database contain two copy of each table one for 1.3.3 and one for 1.4.9?
If yes then you need tho first delete all of it (drop the database) and the re-create a new db and restore your old file , then go to config.inc.php and update the db info (db name, prefix , etc...)

When I wne to the config.inc.php I get this:

Fatal Error
While executing query "SELECT * FROM cpg149_config" on 0

mySQL error: Table 'wxnjjdkd_copp1.cpg149_config' doesn't exist

you should download it to your local PC and edit it with a simple text editor such as notepad and change the prefix

I am not proficient here so I will try ti not make a fool of myself.   ;D  As I look at the data base I have beem importing the old database into I see there are now three prefixes, coppermine, cpg133 & cpg149.  Is this what you need to know?
I had emptied the dtatbase numerous times and imported the old DB (cpg133) and when I run the upgrade some cpg149 files come in, then I renamed what I thought was everything that said cpg149 to coppermine

I am looking at the config.php for the 1.3.3 and the 1.4.9 and the sql DB prefix of the names are different due to different users and password for the servers.  Cani or do i need to make these the same or just the table prefixes?

Ok !
Then first you need to totaly drop this DB or totaly drop all the table and then re-restore your old (CPG133) databse and then change your prefix under config.inc.php to cpg133 (same as your old databse table prefix)
hope it work for you

This is leading nowhere, you don't even know the very basics. I suggest hiring someone to perform the upgrade for you...

Thank you for the encouragement(insults) and the loss of karma, I thought this was to help people who are trying to learn as much as you, this forum has taken me almost two weeks to get things fixed as I went on my own and figured out how to avoid the problems I had when I lost my site due to upgrading on the same server.  I installed the new version on my own as worked through your forum to get things fixed, got my theme done by myself but the documantation is not clear on how to upgrade just the directory.  I also thought the directory stored my pics as I looked at it in phpadmin its showed the pics,  I did answer my own question long before your response when I went through my ftp program and completed it without your help.  I like being able to read other posts and get my answer before "bothering" you guys who can take over the world with the click of a button.  When I was hold how to fix my directory no one told me the pics didnt move.  Thank you.
