I'm still having this problem :S
I contacted my Email host or however you call it,
and they said that for there SMTP service the host
should be: mail.home.nl
and that you didn't need to fill in a password or
username, so I did this. But still I don't receive a
email after registrating, and yes email notification is
turned on and I checked my junkmail. (tried several email adresses)
I also read http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#smtp (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#smtp)

my CPG is placed here:

Please help me.

Today I tried some thing with different email adresses and SMTP hosts,
I have used untill now:
Hotmail (without SMTP )
Home.nl (mail.home.nl)
Lycos (smtp.lycos.nl)

Neither of them worked, so i am still having the problem
that in not any case the admin or 'new user' gets a notification
email sent.

Which mail clients do you guys use?
Could someone please helpe me! It's driving me crazy :s

None of those free email services will allow you to relay. Use sendmail if you have it. If you don't, use your own smtp service. If not sure, ask your webhost for support.

www.home.nl is my own mail service.
I contacted them and they said that I only had to
fill in the SMTP host, (mail.home.nl) and that
this didn't require a username and password to fill in.
But it didn't work.....

About sendmail, could you tell me a bit more about it?
And how to set that up please?
tnx so far.

www.home.nl is my own mail service.
I contacted them and they said that I only had to
fill in the SMTP host, (mail.home.nl)

This is only true for your own, local computer. @home checks the line you're on (your computer name, [remember, the one you got from @home] and your IP [from @home too]). If your server (not in your network with another computer name) tries to use @home services it gets blocked -> doesn't work

solution: use a SMTP service with password auth

googlemail works... and all others with password authentification. Don't mix it up with yoiur mail client (eg. Outlook, Thunderbird). We're talking about a SMTP server

I 'installed' my Gmail account.
So for the SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
Username: *******@gmail.com
Password: *******

But after registrating with a test user,
I didn't get any notification email????
I really don't know what is wrong?:s

--> Is it maybe possible to change it
manually in the document "mailer.inc" ?

I read a document of coppermine, witch told me
to turn on debug mode, so that you could see
the settings of 'your Coppermine'

I filled in the SMTP settings, so:

SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
Username: *******@gmail.com
Password: *******

Then after accepting these changes, I looked at the
email settings witch you can see when debug mode is
turned on, This is what it showed:

email
------------------
Directive | Local Value | Master Value
sendmail_from | no value | no value
sendmail_path | /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i  | /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i
SMTP | localhost | localhost
smtp_port | 25 | 25

So I think that my smtp settings arent 'filled in' ?
Am I right?

Please help!
Tnx for reading anyone

Google Mail won't let you relay on your server as far as I can see. If you don't have sendmail set up properly, you'll have to come up with an account that you're actually allowed to use for SMTP purposes on your server. Usually, webhosts provide you with an email account you're allowed to use. This whole issue smells like self-hosting without needed skills to me. We can't and won't recommend self-hosting, especially for newbies who don't know their way around in server setup and maintenance. Sorry if this is incorrect, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes you are mostly right, but now that I have
come this far ( I think ) because everything
works great accept for the notification emails,
so I would really love to complete it. I think that
the best sollution is to maybe install sendmail. So
I was looking for a good guide / tutorial for that?
Maybe you know where I could find that? The readme
files coming with the installation package aren't very
usefull for me:S

There's no such thing as sendmail on Windows. As suggested above: if you have little clue how to operate a webserver of your own, you shouldn't run one. This definitely is not the proper forum to learn how to operate one anyway. If the domain you're hosting on your webserver is yours to administer, you should create an email address of that particular domain and use it for sending emails using SMTP. However: this is not Coppermine-related. Coppermine expects that your server is properly configured to send emails. Yours isn't. Fix this first, then come back here if you still need support.
