How to Upgrade from 1.4.21 to 1.6.3

Hi
I would like to upgrade my coppermine gallery.
I just need to tranfert all files from archive to my server directory ?
What will happen with all my albums from members in the directory ?
What files must i keep ?
It will update SQL automaticly ?
My gallery was running with php 4.4 server, now the php server is at 7.2 version

You have a bit of a challenge on your hands.

First you need to take a backup of both your sql database and your gallery files. That should be the easy part.

You then have to update in steps from your current version  via 5.x to the latest version. That is where the challenge begins as you are now on a late version of PHP. So somehow you need to be able to run an earlier version to do the upgrade. That can be done locally using WAMP or similar, working on your backup rather than your live data to do so. If you are totally struggling to do this then I will see if I can help.

You mean i must put php ver 5.x and update to 1.6.3 ?
i can update copermine 1.4.21 to 1.6.3 directly or must i use differente version before ?
