Go for the rating stars that come with the igames theme, they work better on dark backgrounds (see http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/demo/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=&pos=0&theme=igames for example) .

Actually I would like to get rid of the stars altogether in the Top Rated section. Which file should I modify?

Thanks.

What I'd like is to have an album on the home page with the best pics so I have a selected gallery of photos to "show off", and have categories containing the full albums with the rest of the pics, but sharing the pics across (i.e. not having to upload twice, sharing the comments and ratings).

It seems this might be possible...
