User can't upload images
« on: December 17, 2010, 02:09:09 pm »

I have 31 users on my gallery, and each one can upload images to their own albums, bar one. He can create albums, but can't upload images. He gets a message stating that he doesn't have permission to perform that action. Now every user has the same permissions, him included. The only thing I can think of is his browser. Or might there be something else?

Thanks in advance.

Create a new test account. Firstly try yourself if you can upload files with that account. If it works, let the user upload some files with that account. If it fails it's definitely an individual issue of that user's browser/machine.

Please post some additional information like a link to your gallery and if you bridged your gallery. Does that user belongs to some additional user groups the users don't belong to?

I've created a test account, and I can upload with that. I'll try your advice and let him use that account. No, it is not bridged. There are two user groups, of which only one group can upload. He has been added to that group. Users have to apply for that group, and I add them manually. The link is:

Does he only belongs to that group or to another group that has no upload privileges?

He (like everyone else) belongs to two groups:

Primary - upload privileges
Secondary - No upload privileges

Okay. Let's wait for the test results from that user.

I received the following message from the user in question this morning:

Quote
Tried your latest suggestion of using the test account with the same result. I use Zone Alarm Extreme security so I've tried turning off the Force field component and trying again with no luck. I've downloaded and used Opera and Safari plus Internet Explorer and all give the same result so I've almost eliminated it being a problem with either Firefox or Zone Alarm.
What I did notice after the latest attempt was that after I browsed to the file location on my computer and clicked the upload button was that the activity bar at the bottom of Firefox gave me the message, Transferring data from Realityart.co.uk then the message about not having permission to perform this action pops up. I might be wrong but it looked like the browser was trying to download the image from the server rather than upload from my hard drive.

So it's definitely a client-side issue. Please let test him both the flash uploader and the simple upload form with the test account. Please verify that both work for you as well with the test account.

I've just tried the Simple Upload method, and received the same message he got. The Flash Upload however works just fine. I suspect that he has been trying the Simple Upload method.

Please post the groups settings of the groups the user belongs to. Does the error occur while upload to a personal album, a public album or both?

Screenshot of the groups permissions. The primary group is Reality, and Registered secondary for Reality members. If I remember correctly, the error occurs to both.

The primary group is Reality, and Registered secondary for Reality members.
I assume vice versa: primary group 'Registered' and secondary group 'Reality'?

When a user Registers, he is a Registered group member. If he uses the Reality plug-in (DAZ Studio), then I change his primary to Reality group, and then add Registered as secondary group. Thinking about it, it sounds like doing things twice. Maybe I should just add Reality as a secondary group.

It is actually done that way, so that I can see who belongs to what group ... hence changing the users group.

I change his primary to Reality group, and then add Registered as secondary group
I just tested that, but that seems not to be possible. I can just add non-default groups as secondary user groups. What's the benefit of adding users of the group 'Reality' additionally to the 'Registered' group? I assume it's because you hide some albums that are only visible for users in the 'Registered' group?

The group Reality I created myself.

How it works is that only the Registered group members can view albums which have their permissions set to Registered only. That means the Reality group (which is a higher group) can't view it. Therefore they need to be added as a secondary to Registered.

I still don't know how you added the group 'Registered' as secondary group. That's of course possible by manipulating the database, but I'm not able to do that within the Coppermine interface. Please describe how you did that so I can setup my testbed accordingly.

When a user registers, and needs to be reclassified, I go to Users and change his primary (screenshot Primary)
I then add him to secondary (screenshot Secondary)
And the result (screenshot Result)

Lol  ;D

So do we know why Simple Upload doesn't work but Flash Upload do?
