Some noop help on editing themes
« on: February 20, 2009, 08:09:42 pm »

hello, well i'm really new to coppermine, i'm not experienced in php, I just installed it through godaddy one click install, anyway, I use valentine theme, and I wanna know how I could learn adding stuff to my theme...i read the documents but can't understand it,

for example, how I can add google adsense code to Valentine theme above picture or under it or after comments? what to edit, template.php or theme.php ? and what I should put? just the google adsense without anything on it?!

hope i can know some good information to start playing with the theme to add many more things than just adsense...and sorry if its known thing for u but i'm just a new in coppermine and all my experience was in PHPBB templates...thanks for your patience  :)

It's very probably that your installation start to fail very soon and you will lose more time trying to solve the problems than to learn right now how to do a manual installation. Read: http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/auto-installers.htm

thanks so much for the advise! I did it already :) just installed my first manual coppermine, and so happy with it!  :D

Could you specify what part didn't you understood?
the part about any content! its just shown in Index...how I can make something like ( anycontent2.php ) and put it on the photos pages, under the picture for example, as I want to make something like book mark this or share and this stuff..is it possible by any content or have easier way?  ???

Click on "SEARCH" and search for "adsense" ;)
I did it really before asking, but nothing, almost all the results was about adding it to full size view page, but nothing about how to add it to some certain place on the photo page or homepage?

don't worry about that  :D I may be some kid noob  :-X but I'm good in English, so I'm trying to read and learn, but excuse me as somethings are not so easy to understand  ???

Don't use anycontent to display adsense ads. That file is meant to contain dynamic PHP-driven code, not plain HTML and JavaScript (which is what adsense is about). Edit template.html to permanently add your advert into a static place. Edit theme.php to make it show up on a particular place within the layout. As Fabricio suggested, there are many postings that explain how to add adsense to particular sections of the output of coppermine.

Before you do, you better start from scratch: auto-installers are not recommended nor supported. GoDaddy's auto-installer is notorious for not being portable. You can not even back it up. It's not an alternative you should consider. Install Coppermine the way we suggest in our docs, that's the only real option.

Then do as suggested by board rules as well as posting rules: they say that you need to be detailed and post a link to your gallery with your help request. You haven't. Why?

Joachim

P.S. The word is "noob" or "newbie" or "newbee". I have never come across the spelling "noop".
