Yeah, the theme engine is not convenient for everybody, we will discuss this but I don't think this will change in the 1.x branch.

I agree that creating themes with Coppermine is not that easy, especially for beginners like me. Are there any plans to do a new theme contest? Sorry if Im out of the loop...

p.s.: In that gallery, some of the themes from this site are great!  :)
