resize normal images

Another newbie question...is it possible to resize "Normal" images?...so that the image size for a slide show would be greater than 200 pixels

By "Normal" do you mean the intermediate image? If so, that setting is in config in the admin controls. Go to file and thumnail settings and change the width to the "Max width or height of an intermediate picture/video ** " making a note of the ** comment.

Bear in mind that if you upload a picture smaller than this size it will not be scaled up.
