CPU Usage
« on: March 15, 2008, 02:52:42 am »

Hey guys, here is the situtation:

Server:
1 GB RAM
3Ghz P4 Processor
4 1TB Harddrives in a RAID
Will be used from time to time for Photoshopping, etc. while in use by 16 clients

Coppermine:
About 100,000 pics

Usage:
About 16 people will be accessing pictures at a time (16 computers (over a Gigabit LAN connection), at a time may browse around the albums for around for a minute or so, then download a pic (5MB)), over and over.

Do you think that this would significantly slow down the computer? Or should I get a dedicated server:
4GB RAM
4 1TB HD
2.3Ghz Quad Core

What is the bottleneck in serving pictures? Thanks!

There is no bottleneck in the cpg code but yes there is a server bottleneck. So its always better to go for a good server if there are large number of pictures. There are coppermine galleries running with more pics than your intended number with some optimization like not showing random files on home page, not showing statistics on homepage etc..
