Detecting IPs
« on: November 18, 2007, 02:38:37 am »

Recently I have had daily multiple registrations(10 to 15) all using names such as Htf281 with gmail accounts. Admin has to
activate any new member so they are not getting activated. I would like to ban the IP Address but how do you find or detect an IP from someone who has not been activated yet? I can ban the user name but that is a lost cause since they can change it every time they visit.

Thanks

Spammers use dynamically assigned IP addresses, so that would be pointless. Use the captcha plugin to avoid spam bot registrations. Has been asked frequently - search the board before posting in the future.

Thanks for the reply and answer. I would not have known it was spammers trying to get into a picture gallery. I'll install
that plugin ASAP.

FYI, I did search the forums for 2 days and all I found when searching for IP Address was tons of posts about scripts
or other address problems concerning logins.

Thanks again
