[Solved]: is coppermine dumb or am i dumb?
« on: November 02, 2007, 09:26:33 pm »

the coppermine documentation says

Quote
Album Password: you can specify an album to be password-protected (instead of relying on the "regular" group-based permissions). This way, you can even allow access for unlogged users (guests) who you provide the password to. Use this option, for example, to set up an album for your family members only by specifying a password that only they can come up with answering an additional password hint (e.g. "What was the maiden name of aunt Emma?"), or you could decide to send the particular password to specific friends, family or business associates by email. The optional password hint will be displayed at the password prompt, when set.

Note: when setting an album password, the permission dropdown field "Album can be viewed by" will be switched automatically to "me only" - this is expected behaviour. If you change the "Album can be viewed by" to another selection, you must disable the album password as well.

But the guests seem to get nowhere to enter the password since the password protected folder is not shown at al in the main page. then where is the question of entering the password and viewing the album when they feel that such an album doesnot exist at all..

Enable the Show private album Icon to unlogged user in config to let the users see the private album icons on main page.

I know this is an old thread, but I've spent 4 hours trying to password protect an album. I've read the FAQ, I've searched posts, and it just won't work. This post is the closest I've come to finding an answer, and in about 4 more hours, I get fired.

OK, right off - I'm NOT a smart person. But I HAVE to have this feature work.

It seems to have worked once for me, in that it showed me a private album icon and prompted me for the password - ONE time when I was logged out. Then, logged out, I closed the browser (Firefox) and went back to the gallery main page. Suddenly, in the new session of Firefox, it just let me right back in.  I was not logged in to Coppermine. Everyone can access the album, although the PROPERTIES show it to be password protected with "ME ONLY" as the viewer.

Yet when I am logged out, it still lets everyone in and does not show the private icon.

Can someone please help me?

Thanks so much.

The fact that you successfully entered the password is stored in a cookie. If you return (even after closing your browser), you're recognized and you get access to the album without the need to enter the password another time. If you want to verify that passwords work as expected, delete your cookie.

Well, I freely admitted the fact of the subject...

Anyway - thanks so much for that. :-*
I didn't know that at all.

I told it "no" to remember that password, and to me, it shouldn't have.

You've saved me a great deal of heartache, and knowing that it works!

Thanks for the software itself, too. It came bundled with some webserver stuff, and I'd be lost without such a good way to upload images! ;D
