Batch adding extremely loads server
« on: October 07, 2007, 10:25:16 pm »

Hello,

I have installed coppermine on relatively poor server - P4/1600,512 MB RAM. Everything runs smoothly, but if I try batch uploading pictures, server starts swapping and manages to generate only few thumbnails. It takes 10-15 mins to make thumbnails of 100 jpegs and result looks like this:

What could cause this behavior ? Is it too weak server (low amount of memory) or some wrong settings ? I use Imagemagick as image processor, could it be the problem ?

Could you please push me in right direction ?

Thanks, Zahno.

What is the size (dimension) of those images?
It's better to resize big image on your local pc , resizing big images put a huge load on server

Size is max up to 4MB, 10mbit original.
I'll try to resize pictures to 1200x1200 to see if it'd help

Thanks for quick reply.

SOLVED

problem was too slow server, which was causing timeouts. After upgrading to faster hardware (Core2 @ 2.33 GHz) everything works flawlessly.
BTW dualcore CPU is used to 100% and 350 jpegs of size of 1600x1200 pix are imported in 50 seconds. CPG could use good server.
