SMF & CPG bridging works FLAWLESSLY...except in Firefox
« on: May 18, 2007, 10:45:09 pm »

Everything is working quite smoothly with my bridging--logins are maintained (through links and manual url entry) and logouts are maintained across both apps.  Everything seems fine....in I.E. 6, but not so in Firefox.

If I'm logged into SMF, using Firefox, links to my bridged CPG from anywhere in the forum (both from posts and from hard-coded links I've added to the menu) force the user back to the SMF login screen.  (even though the top of the screen still shows the user as logged-in on SMF)  However, I can manually enter the CPG url in the address bar and launch my bridged CPG in Firefox, while retaining the current login just fine.  So what's up?

Note:  Links to my non-bridged CPGs work fine in both browsers.  The ONLY problem is with links to my bridged CPG using Firefox.  I'm sure it's some sort of cookie/session problem, but I'm not sure where to start...

Thank you guys for all your hard work and help!  It's SINCERELY appreciated.  :-)

Where's the test user account that is mandatory to post?
When requesting bridge support, please post a link to your site, a test user account, and what you have set in the bridge manager.
Make sure that the test user account doesn't have admin privileges. When posting parts of your bridge file, make sure to replace passwords with asterisks.

This is how your posting should look like (with actual URLs instead of the dummy URLs I posted as an example):

you login to http://wolfe-stone.com/
but then you link to your gallery http://www.wolfe-stone.com/

That's treated as different domains (subdomain)

Fix the link back as Stramm suggested, enable subdomain-independant cookies in SMF, set up an .htaccess page that redirects all visitors accessing www.yourdomain.tld to yourdomain.tld (or vice versa). This has been discussed often already, please search the board.

Well, personally, I login at www.wolfe-stone.com/dcs   But you guys were exactly right.  Adding "www" to the website url in the server settings completely fixed the problem!  Thank you both soooo much!

GauGau...I spent at least an hour on the forums before posting my message.  (I tried)  Turning on subdomain-independent cookies didn't work and I was too afraid to mess with the .htaccess file.  I never realized that the "www" wasn't already present and somehow I missed any mention of that on the forums...

Again, I sincerely, sincerely thank you both!!!

WOW.....................

I Love to search for stuff...

The Main problem I had is that my site has 2 domain names going to it so it was just bouncing around with out getting back to the gallery. The gallery had milwaukeeareavwclub.com and the forum had mavwc.com. Also I didn't have the WWW any where in the server settings on the forum.

This post helped out TONS.

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
