Unable to login - Redirect problem ?
« on: July 16, 2007, 01:48:32 am »

My site is at www.fotobuffs.com, and I am no longer able to login because of wrong redirects, I think.

My original Coppermine install was at www.fotobuffs.com/admu198, and I added a redirect so that my users would get to the CPG home page just by entering www.fotobuffs.com.  That works.  But the Gallery button inside the forum was linking back to an old install of menalto's gallery2, and I wanted to change that so that it would link back instead to the CPG install.  Well, I messed it up.  So now when anyone logs in in using the CPG login function, they get redirected to the SMF login, which is how it should be. BUT when anyone logs in via the SMF forum login (after being redirect there by CPG), they no longer get logged in to CPG (which is how it was before), but instead stay logged in at the forum.

It is probably useless for me to provide a test account since you will not be able to login either until I am able to fix the redirects in the Control Panel.

Need help again please.

Coppermine Install :  www.fotobuffs.com/admu198/   with redirect to www.fotobuffs.com
Forum URL: www.fotobuffs.com/forum/
CPG v1.4.12
SMF Forum v1.1.3
Test Username/Password: test/test

Problems being encountered:

1) after logging in at CPG, getting redirected to SMF forum for login, but after logging in at forum, stays at forum and not getting redirected back to CPG, so unable to login to CPG at all

2) GALLERY button within forum links to old install of menalto's Gallery2, and would like button to link back to CPG install instead

No not really.  Just realized that something weird is going on, and I don't know what it is.  When you login the first time from a computer that you have not logged in from before, then it works. But when you try a second time from that same computer, it no longer works, and it doesn't matter which user account you use.  In my case, I cleared all my cache, cookies, etc., from both of my computers at home, but I am unable to login the second time I try.  Then I do a restore of backup I made before I did all my redirect stuff, then I am able to login again but just once from each computer, and not a second time. Very weird problem.

So the answer to your question, is no the problem is not yet solved.  Additionally, my intent is for my login/logout functions to be exactly like your demo and that is what I was trying to accomplish.

Already tried 5 times login/logout and it's working fine !
That could be your browsers or your ISP issue

I removed the redirect from http://fotobuffs.com/admu198/ to http://fotobuffs.com, and that solved the problems I am having now, but did not provide the solutions I was looking for before I did the redirects.  So I do not think it is an ISP or browser problem. But I am back to square one, where my users will have to use the long url www.fotobuffs.com/admu198 instead of just www.fotobuffs.com, PLUS the Gallery button inside the forum still links to the old installation of menalto's Gallery2, which will of course cause a lot of confusion with potential members.

Any ideas on what to do to accomplish my goals?

And thanks by the way.

I removed the redirect from http://fotobuffs.com/admu198/ to http://fotobuffs.com, and that solved the problems I am having now
So it was your redirection that caused issues. There are several ways of redirecting - if not done properly, authentification might fail.
But I am back to square one, where my users will have to use the long url www.fotobuffs.com/admu198 instead of just www.fotobuffs.com
Why redirect in the first place? Why don't you move the entire content of your coppermine folder into your webroot and then change just the one setting in coppermine's config?

PLUS the Gallery button inside the forum still links to the old installation of menalto's Gallery2, which will of course cause a lot of confusion with potential members.
None of our business - just change the link in your navigation if it is wrong.
