Is it possible to ban IP ranges?
« on: July 05, 2007, 07:35:28 pm »

Is it possible to ban something like IP range 83.*.*.* using CPG?
In my country 90% of users has dynamic IP addresses, so the build-in banning feature is useless for me.
I can't use htaccess

Not unless you code it in yourself.

As you said: most users are on dynamic IP addresses, so banning is silly in the first place. If you have issues with comment spam, don't use banning, but disable anonymous comments or use the captcha plugin or mod.

OK, problem solved, I found that I can use htaccess afterall, but the file is .settings not .htaccess on my server.

But all scripts that I have been using had that feature, ex. phpBB, IPB, phpfusion...

Just because others have a particular feature doesn't mean that coppermine needs that feature. We're convinced that IP address banning is silly in the first place, that's why we don't waste time and effort into improving the banning feature.
