Does anybody know a free host?
« on: April 14, 2007, 10:23:55 pm »

My domain has recently run out and I cant get a host until my whole site is set up. Does anybody know a place that would host me? Or would anybody be willing to host me?

Thanks, Chloe

There's a whole thread dedicated to free hosts in the general discussion board.

??? First let me apologize if this is the wrong place for this question, or if it has been asked, I am just new to all this.

What is a host? I have tried to download this program to my computer with no sucess, and am getting quite discouraged. I want to make a fan base web site and need a photo gallery; have seen this one used many times and liked it.

Can anyone assist me in this?

Coppermine is not a desktop application that you run on your local PC. You need a webserver to run it on. As you usually don't have a webserver of your own, you sign up with a webhost. A webhost is a company that provides you with storage space on a webserver (called webspace). There is paid webhosting (which usually offers more features, better service and availability) and free webhosting (that usually comes with third-party advertisments on the webpages). If you have no idea what a webhost is, then coppermine probably is not the application you have been looking for. You should instread sign up with Flickr or a similar service.
