Is there a way to have a custom category thumbnail without having that image viewable in ian album to the public?

I'd like to have custom thumbnails for my Categories.  However, I noticed that the custom thumbnail has to be in one of the albums below it and visible to everyone to see. 

I would like to simply have that image as the category thumbnail but not part of an album.

I'd like to have custom category thumbnails that don't show up in the albums below. 

I've checked the forums for posts about this but can't find anything for cpg1.4

It would be nice if the specific thumbnails only show up as thumbnails for the specified category.  Right now visitors can see these images while surfing through images in a given album
