Question about bridging CPG1.4 with PHPBB2
« on: December 20, 2006, 04:05:31 am »

Hi,

When I watch integration / bridging I thought on install cpg and integrate a forum inside it. I installed cpg and phpbb and bridged succesfully, and then put a link in the cpg menu to the phpbb webpage. But instead of having both as separate applications I would prefer have the forum embedded in the cpg webpage, making it appear in the same way other options appear. Is it possible with phpbb or any other bb script?

Thanks!

This is a matter of skinning your gallery, not a matter of bridging (as bridging only takes care of logically connecting those two apps). Visual integration is a matter of creating a custom theme. In fact, you have some place on your screen - you can fill it with gallery content or forum content. You usually don't have the space on a single page to display both. If you closely tie both apps together (having links pointing from your forum to your gallery and vice versa) and create a theme for your forum that matches the look of your gallery (or vice versa) your users won't notice that they are switching to and fro between different apps, creating a seamless user experience.
Displaying your forum on each and every gallery page is not an option imo, but visual (and technological) overkill. However, if you must have it this way, take a look at the SMF integration mod by snork (that basically wraps the gallery into an iframe of the forum).

As this is not a matter of bridging, but visual integration I'm moving this thread from the bridging sub-board.
