emails aren't being received OR aren't being send to begin with

Default  installation so there have been no recent changes.

I'd also like to point out if the server doesn't have sendmail installed this doesn't produce an error.  I figured that much out, and installed sendmail (/usr/sbin) but that still hasn't fixed the problem.  I also tried adding gmail, but would rather not do it that way.
