in admin mode, click on the 'edit pics' next to the album thumb that the pic is currently in.

Find the pic, and click on the album box.  choose the new album you want it to be in.  Scroll to the bottom of the page, and apply modifications.

thanks so much for the reply!  i have two albums (under one category)  in my user gallery, but i don't see any edit button.

To edit pics in the user galleries, you need to go one stage further before you reach the admin buttons, i.e., home/user gallery/username albums.
Make sure you are in admin mode.
