not able to login
« on: July 12, 2006, 01:31:48 am »

I don't even know how to explain what's happening... well, I haven't used my gallery for a while, because my main site is not ready yet. It did install just fine and I remember I even created an album and uploaded an image as it was suggested "before" I bridged it with SMF. I don't remember if I tried uploading anything after the bridge was done.
Anyway... I went to the gallery today to do some uploading... I can't find the upload button, so I think it might be because I am not logged in... so I click on login and I get the login screen for SMF, which I think it's right, since they are bridged right? I login, but everytime I go to the gallery I am not logged in, so that means I cannot do anything as an admin neither as a member.
I come here to the support forums and I see the posting about the upgrading... and I think to myself, well, maybe what's happening is some bug or something.
So I go ahead and upgrade it.
Everything goes smooth and at the end where it suggests to check the file versions, I click on it and it tells that I don't have authorization to do that. Of course, I need to login! But I can't!

Anyone able to help me with this? thanks!!!

Elaine

thanks, I wasn't sure where to post that question since I did the upgrade.
I followed your link, read all the postings under that thread... not really sure what I have to do.
Would you please elaborate?
Sorry for being so dense, but I thank you for you patience!

Do as suggested in the first post - give us a link to your site and a test user account.

artsystudio.meaningfulscraps.com and www.artsystudio.meaningfulscraps.com are not the same thing: they differ, as far as cookies are concerned. Cookies are needed for authentification. After loging in to your forum, you're not logged in to http://artsystudio.meaningfulscraps.com/gallery/, but you are logged into http://www.artsystudio.meaningfulscraps.com/gallery/
This is a known issue that is not only an issue with coppermine, but similar apps as well, as cookie authentification is doing exactly what it was designed to do.
To solve this, you have two options: either use one domain (only with leading www subdomain or only without it) or enable subdomain-independent cookies in SMF. The first option is better: to accomplish this, create a plain-text file with the following content:
Code: [Select]
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.meaningfulscraps\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*) http://meaningfulscraps.com/$1 [R,L]
and save it with the file name ".htaccess" into the webroot of your site (meaningfulscraps.com). If a .htaccess file already exists there, add the content I just posted to it.

thanks for your reply.
There was no .htaccess in the webroot of my site, so I created one and uploaded it to it.
I am still having the same problems though, so I took a look to check if the file had indeed being uploaded... and it's not there! It doesn't show up!

now what?

Make sure whatever you use is set to display hidden files.

erm, sorry: reviewing my suggestion I figured that you're using a subdomain already, so you'll have to edit the .htaccess file accordingly to reflect this. Drop the use of the leading www sub-sub-domain.

I must be really dense and doing some really wrong.
I just uploaded the file. Went to the forum, logged in. Clicked on the link to the gallery, I am not logged in, I click on login, I log in, it takes me back to the forum.

I am sure it's just me doing something really stupid.

Can you try yourself using the test account?

The htaccess is not working. Enabling subdomain independent cookies in SMF is probably an easier option.

It worked!!!! now when I login in on SMF and click on the gallery link, I am automatically logged in!!!

thank you thank you thank you!

gonna delete that part that I added to the htaccess file now.

I've got one problem though... It won't let me log out, it reloads the page but I am still logged in. However, if I close that browser tab and open a new one, I am logged out! LOL
I guess I have to post this problem at the SMF forum now??

thanks guys!!!

You must clear your cookies whenever you make a change to cookie settings.
