How does one remove a link beneath the buttons that are present in coppermine?

Album list     Last uploads     Last comments     Most viewed     Top rated     My Favorites     Search
Those are the links I'm trying to remove.  I don't want users to be able to see top rated, most viewed, last uploads, and last comments (this is a voting forum and since it is competition I'd like users not to base their votes on other peoples' comments, etc).

I've poured through the documentation and found out how to add buttons...but links are another story.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

For all the places that discuss modifying the SYS_MENU and SUB_MENU:
buttons == links

Do what the threads say, and you'll be all set.

If you want to stop people from manually typing in the URL (if they know it from other Coppermine galleries), that's a little more difficult.  Removing the links is simple in your theme.

Then I move it over into mytheme/theme.php and comment out the ones I don't want.  When I do this, I get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: addbutton() in /home/pclos/public_html/gallery/themes/oxygen/theme.php on line 120

So I figured I'm not supposed to move it over to mytheme/theme.php...instead perhaps I'm supposed to comment the buttons/links out right there in sample/theme.php.  So I fix everything, comment out the lines in sample/theme.php and nothing happens there either.

So, I gave it the old college try...but nothing works so far.  What am I doing wrong?

Take a look at this sticky FAQ thread: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=26897.0.  It tells you what to copy from the sample theme to properly modify the SYS_MENU.

Basically, you need to copy the functions above the code you pasted above, including the addbutton function definition.

And you shouldn't modify the sample theme or any other default Coppermine theme directly.  Make a new theme, and copy the relevant code to this new theme.  That way, upgrades are easier in the future, and you can always go back to a default theme if desired.

I was looking for something quick and easy.  This solution isn't it.  I have no idea how to code using php and cracking into the file and doing what that thread states to do makes me extremely uncomfortable and would occupy an entire day for me (I'm not a l33t hax0r by any means).

I gotta tell ya, not being able to customize links easily really stinks.  Allow me to give some constructive criticism on this:

Take MyBB, my current bulletin board, for example. Within 10 minutes of install I had all my toplinks customized and I'm not a coder...it's easy...and I had never installed that bulletin board before.  Things _should_ be this easy when customizations are concerned.  Cosmetics can be more complicated but links and makeup should be as easy as editing a menu.  Just my two cents worth.  And please understand this is coming from someone who has installed close to 200 various CMS's with no problems.  I webmaster the pclinuxonline.com/wiki, linux-blog.org, lobby4linux.com, mypclinuxos.com, and blog.lobby4linux.com.  Each site uses a different CMS (just so you know I'm not being silly).  So please take my two cents for what they're worth...cuz this isn't coming from someone who is just frustrated and pissed...this is coming from someone who has a ton of experience working with webpages (been doing it since 1994).

Do you have plans to move more inline with smarty template systems?

Ok...that gives me no errors and displays my gallery (added the album under the category when it was only category before...but that's cool) to use that in my theme.php

@devnet: Yes, cpgNG uses the smarty templating engine, but it's in alpha and so not ready for production use.

Your comments on customizing links are useful.  In fact, maybe you should start over, assuming you have the original theme.php.  To remove blocks easily, you can use the plugin "Final_extract".  It doesn't have a web interface yet, but you merely have to add one line for each block (in this case link) you want to remove.

For customizing a theme more heavily, modifying theme.php is required.  For removing links & buttons & other such things, plugins are the way to go.  (See also the plugins "delete control" or "full-size photos access".)  Plugins can have nice web interfaces as well, along some don't have them yet.

top rated = TOPRATED_TGT
 most viewed = TOPN_TGT
 Last uploads= LASTUP_TGT
last comments= LASTCOM_TGT
search then in your theme, for example if you remove TOPRATED_TGT then there is no link but it will display error, you can link them for example to your home

BUT what i suggest follow paver's instructions, much easier for u
