Static category icon
« on: May 15, 2006, 11:45:12 pm »

Hi

I have search extensively but cannot find any information on it so here is my question:

I need to know if there is a way to 1. have icons for categories and albums and 2. be able to store those icons in a different, hidden place, perhaps an album for example.

Thanks in advance.
Adam.

For (1), yes you can and the documentation tells you how to do so.  (The properties for either album or category gives you the option of choosing a photo in that album or category as its icon.)

For (2), you must use a photo from the album or category for the icon.  If you want to use a different one, you'd have to write a hack or plugin or manually add in the PID into the database tables.  The latter choice is obviously not desirable for large numbers or frequent changes.

Hmm... since you posted this in the themes board, I guess I could imagine writing a theme customization that would manually set the icon for categories and albums using a select() block with fixed PIDs, AIDs, and CatIDs.

I suggest the plugin route since that's the most flexible, for now and in the future.  The hack route is the most direct.

Using the Documentation link at the top,

You can also use the "Documentation" button on your own Coppermine installation.

Please provide a link to your site.

Hi again

This is my site:
http://www.rateaplayer.net/coppermine

I think a plugin would be handy - in my case I have soccer players to be rated but dont really want anyone voting on the teams logo - but there is no way to hide that logo if i want that logo displayed as the album thumbnail... :(

Any ideas :)

how is rating related? Please stick to the "one issue per thread" policy that you agreed to respect when signing up.

The rating is related.

To use the album icon I have to place the that icon into the album so in effect it makes that icon a rateable icon - its just something I don't want the user to see - in effect I'd like to be able to use that icon as the album icon but have it hidden from the user if it has to remain inside the album.

I am willing to use the manual method of the diect link - perhaps I could have a hidden seperate album calling 'team logos' and within that album have said team logos - from there I can point the album thumbnails at the hidden icons.

Sorry this is all a bit complicated - its hard to get it all across but I am sticking to just one topic :D

thanks again

you can disable rating per album, just put the pic you don't want to see rated into an album, then go to that album's properties screen and disable rating for it. Please read the docs.

Hi

Ok disabling the rating is a built in function but can I hide it or would that be a hack or require soem modification?

here the icon has the rating and comment option off but you can still see it:  http://rateaplayer.net/coppermine/thumbnails-3-page-3.html

Please bear in mind that I'm really not a smart man but can follow given instructions :)

Thanks

I have tried to put the team logo into an album called "logos" but that doesnt show up in the original album.
If I could have one album call "logos" all the other albums can use the "logos" album for their thumbails, but how simple is that to do?

Perhaps the easiest way is to:
1. have a hidden album called "logos"
2. manually reference the viewable albums to the database and the logos album so that the albums' thumbnails are only visible in the over view and the actual team logos don't exist within any other place except the hidden logos directory.

Im not sure that's overly clear but feel free to flame me :)
