Does anyone know of a way to add the breadcrumb links to the home/category page?

I have customized my breadcrumb to start with a link to my home, then a link to the photo gallery, and finally whatever page or sub-section the user is on. This seems to work just fine. However, I would also like this breadcrumb links on the home/gallery/category page as well, which should translate to Home > Gallery >. The reason is for consistency and user-friendlyness with the rest of my site.

I found another hack in this forum "http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=4411.0" but it does not seem to work on version 1.4.x and I can't seem to figure out at what point the breadcrumb would be added to the home/category page.
