NEWBIE: mySQL error on install.php
« on: March 08, 2006, 12:52:23 pm »

hi, trying to install a gallery on my site, no experience of mySQL etc

on the install.php page i have entered all of my details but it is coming back with the error message:

Could not create a mySQL connection, please check the SQL values entered

MySQL error was : Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

Now i know the obvious answer is to check my details but i have checked and rechecked and cant figure out what is going on!!

the details i have submitted are:

MySQL Host                           localhost (default)
MySQL Database Name            stokevideoma_gal (from my server database admin page)
MySQL Username                    stokevideoma_gal (also from my server database admin page)
MySQL Password                     ********
MySQL table prefix                  cpg143_ (default)

Any ideas?!

Murray,

Where are you hosting your database? If you have it set up with a remote hosting company, you will need to get the host connection link from them or you might find it on the server database admin page that you mentioned where you got the database name from. It will look like a web address which points to your database and you will use this instead of localhost.

Giz

PS. There are many posts concerning this so try searching the forum. I've learned so much with the search tool so give it a try.

Did you read the manual first???? Taking 2 minutes to backup your files can save you hours of wondering what you screwed up.

ask your webhost what you need to enter, we can't tell you.
