REQ: Custom Theme image for individual albums
« on: January 28, 2006, 08:19:04 pm »

I was wondering if it would be possible, as I didn't find it here in the forums already, to create a modification that would allow you to put a custom image just above the thumbnail table for each album.  The best example I can think of is www.gamespot.com.

For example:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/starwarsrts/news.html?sid=6143273
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/ageofempiresiii/index.html?q=age%20of%20empires

The two pages above are of two different games, Star Wars and Age of Empires III.  Notice in the top right corner the images are different and special to that game.  Now look at the links below.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/rollercoastertycoon3/index.html?q=rollercoaster%20tycoon%203
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/startreklegacy/index.html?q=star%20trek

Gamespot redid its overall website design and gamepage template after Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 was added to the site, and Star Trek:  Legacy is new and does not have a photo as of yet, so instead of a picture, there is a generic photo of a computer.

Would this be possible to do in a theme in Coppermine?  If so, how would you go about doing it, or even better, would someone be willing to create the modification?  Thank you for your time and help! :)

I'm probably going to get yelled at for posting in my own thread, but I was trying to figure out if this was something that could be added to the album panel (the properties for the album) that would pull image files from a new folder created specifically for this mod?  I'm sure its possible, I just need some assistance if anyone would be willing to provide it.  Thank you!

I don't even understand the question. Is the custom pic you want added meant to be the same for all files or by picture?

I apologize...it is a little hard to explain...

Take a look at the links I put in my first post.  If you look up at the righthand side directly across from the title of the game you will see a special image that represents the game.  For those that do not have a special image, a default image of a CPU Box and a Monitor is used.  Here's an example:

(https://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv283%2Fcrashnet48%2Fexample.jpg&hash=ab0ec23384ea846403ee15677c6a5727530e7af5)

Would this be something that you could do with individual albums (and how would you do it).  In essense, its turning each album to a profile of sorts where the image at the top would represent the contents of the album.  If no image is needed or if I haven't had the opportunity to add an image, the default image would be used to fill the space and keep all of the albums more uniform.

I hope that makes sense, but essentially it would require adding an option to the album properties that allows a header image to be added.  The header images would be stored in a new folder in the /albums directory, with a default.gif image that is automatically inserted into that space when a new album is created.  I'm pretty much assuming this would require a new table in the database as well.

I hope that makes the question easier to understand.  Thank GauGau for your response.  My php coding is not up to par (yet) as I would like it to be, so I would need as much assistance as possible to edit the appropriate files.

Thanks again!

Take a look at the miniCMS plugin: http://cpg-contrib.org/thumbnails.php?album=1

I'll take a look at that after work tomorrow.  Thanks GauGau.
