Parse error: on line 229? madness!

Greetings,
I recently had a problem with uploading images and it was down to the server being in Safe Mode apparently, I followed the steps here:

I added it to both GD1 and GD2, that seemed to have cleared, but now i'm getting the error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /var/www/web address/htdocs/cpg132/include/picmgmt.inc.php on line 229

I checked the code and line 229 is the last comment on the last line of the code. Which says "// We check that"

Anyone have any ideas?

The file is truncated. Get a fresh copy of the file from the package, modify it as in the thread and then upload it again.
